2022-01-22	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484687669091352576	@tszzl @0xfbifemboy Lol remember alien dreadnought factory? Thankfully Elon realized the folly (probably by spending all his time in the factory seeing issues firsthand)

2022-01-22	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484684945654173698	@tszzl I think these are complements- first principles gets beyond local maxima to aim at a higher peak, fail-fast testing uncovers unforseen complications with the new approach.

2022-01-22	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484680090617360384	@ionlazer @tszzl Yeah, I really think history will look back on talk therapy similar to how we look at blood-letting... Encouraging rumination is not helpful.
2022-01-22	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484678897606213643	@ionlazer @tszzl Probably wise... The IQ / gifted thing is so toxic. I finally found a psychiatrist who I like- focuses on how I'm doing and what if anything I want to try to change, doesn't discuss the DSM- and a half-dose of Wellbutrin does make my life overall better.
2022-01-22	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484677490857684993	@ionlazer @tszzl Yep, I have a bunch of "very mild" diagnoses because my life is insufficiently destroyed by my "symptoms". Neurodiversity would be a better frame- I'm weird in the same bipolar way as others, but it isn't a bad thing.

2022-01-21	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484596658054832135	@abettertake @robertwiblin And with shared ownership there's tension between seller wanting max price from any buyer vs remaining residents wanting to choose a compatible new owner... See this in the condo vs co-op distinction, seems like mostly condos have won out.
2022-01-21	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484593920294146048	@abettertake @robertwiblin Yeah, I think transience is a big obstacle- if you've ever lived in a group house and had to interview prospective roommates and organize the move out / move in logistics... With kids in the mix it would be way more fraught
2022-01-21	twitter	quote	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484590769642127362	I find DAOs interesting because they're wrestling with the problem of governance and whether/how tech can reduce the overhead of organizing people for collective ownership. https://x.com/mimi10v3/status/1484572780934877189
2022-01-21	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484589152293330952	@AmandaLothian7 @robertwiblin Yeah, I've been on my condo board, it was tiresome just dealing with the basics of budgets and contractors and resident complaints for 60 households; my community garden is also less than it could be for lack of volunteer leadership. Wrangling people is actually really tough!
2022-01-21	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484573502774652929	@robertwiblin The social and organizational skills required to be a good leader are less common than you'd think, and yet there's not usually compensation for serving on condo boards etc
2022-01-21	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484572780934877189	@robertwiblin Tbh the hard part is governance- creating consensus around rules, organizing shared responsibilities, enforcing penalties on slackers and disruptive people. With a small group it's informal but emotionally intense when things go wrong, with a larger group the comms overhead hurts
2022-01-21	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484570631672897540	@robertwiblin I don't think it needs to be literally within the same house (though if that works great), but cohousing communities work well for people committed to them... Reform suburban zoning laws so it's easier build smaller denser housing clusters with shared facilities and open space.
2022-01-21	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1484557323829972997	@SuperIronBob @default_friend Yes, back when towns were smaller and transportation slower, the community gossiped and remembered your reputation very well.

You notice anomalous behavior not predicted by your current mental model of the system, hypothesize about what might be going on, run diagnostics, and update your understanding as you uncover why the system is not behaving as designed

2022-01-18	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1483512343338311681	@MeiselZachary One issue has been if you mix plastics into cardboard, it's less recyclable... I think Amazon has changed their packing tape to be paper-based so this is less of an issue
2022-01-18	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1483511711441338372	@MeiselZachary I think paper / cardboard is relatively best recyclable material, and far better for environment if it does end up in a landfill. Wood is mostly pine from tree farms- when you cut lumber you get leftover wood chips & shavings which they use for pulp, so really not terrible.
