2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446245896321110017	@adamhoov @WholeMarsBlog I swear it is more about rolling out beta in the places with the least insane *other* drivers on the road...
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446242309683781636	@WholeMarsBlog So... Model 2 *will* be a thing eventually?!?
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446236459149713411	@QiaochuYuan Doesn't it implicitly glorify math?
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446236064763555843	@WholeMarsBlog 🙌 yes!
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446228560721629186	@mcorliss Thanks, this is the sort of thing that leaves me kinda puzzled because as far as I can tell web3 still runs atop TCP/IP carried by the usual ISPs, so your connection is as fragile and filterable as ever...?
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446216724471287809	@BlckCatBlckSky Lol you wish... my rage-filled female family members seem to believe it is better to make other people's lives a living hell than to put them out of their misery.
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446213522451480577	@mattyglesias @ModeledBehavior And looking forward to paying income tax on it?
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446210288269803522	@mcorliss The web3 thing just puzzles me, if you have a solid article on it I'd love to read something more than Tweets.
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446207900096081923	@mcorliss And knowing too well the downsides and unexpected single-point-of-failure problems in existing networking protocols, I feel like there will be some big bumps in the road and I don't have the stomach for that.
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446207023838863375	@mcorliss Maybe I'm too conservative. I think the concepts have promise but the massive amount of money actively sitting atop the current maturity level of the tech... And the amount of *noise* and bullying of skeptics...
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446206405829144586	@mcorliss 🤔 hard to explain... I'd be fine using some of them as open source libraries in my code, but as the basis for a new economic system.... "The code is the spec" makes me uneasy already, and then looking at the process of updating the code and seeing chaos and bad links...
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446204835703951370	@mcorliss Well... It seems like the issue with micropayments is the transaction cost / volume... And currently Bitcoin / Ethereum have pretty high transaction cost and scalability issues... So you go to L2, but I'm not quite convinced by current options, idk...
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446203462857936902	@mcorliss A lot of my uneasiness comes from the ratio of hype to code and # of contributors... it's hard to feel something is sufficiently "decentralized" if the code is maintained by a very small group and there are no published specs
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446201416574541831	@mcorliss I will admit to being old-school- a little resentful to have lost use of the word "crypto" and instinctively feel that a protocol is "too new" if not standardized in an RFC
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446200456468967427	@mcorliss And when I ask questions on Twitter I get mansplained and/or "look into X"... Which just leads to more pawing through bad search results and outdated doc
2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1446200144169512962	@mcorliss I don't think mine is..? Every so often I look into it again as a dev and get frustrated by the broken links, contradictory information, and search results that are mostly hype not content

Demographic discrimination? Get rid of bankruptcy as a legal option to walk away from debt? System to allow employer to send % of wages straight to loan repayment?

2021-10-07	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445936603290034176	@aksfjh @ne0liberal Tbh I thought this would get harsher pushback... I'm irritated with activists who overstate their case and undermine the public trust in statistics and projections, not with people taking full advantage of a legal option- imo the same as tax avoidance.

2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445501376881049603	@PatrickDFarley @sentientist To be clear I'm not an activist trying to ban research or individual decisions, but I think there's a valid but ignored POV that not every divergence from the norm is a "disease" to be eradicated from the gene pool.
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445500256876064781	@PatrickDFarley @sentientist Going back to the original topic of neurodiversity, I just think it would be unfortunate if we eliminate genetic diversity rather than install color-tune dimmable lights to reinforce a normal circadian rhythm.
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445499374474174475	@PatrickDFarley @sentientist But no I wouldn't want them to be diagnosed... Psychiatric diagnoses are still kinda BS because we don't understand the brain well enough yet.
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445498570497400838	@PatrickDFarley @sentientist And having learned to live with it, the "symptoms" are triggered by specific environmental causes which can be avoided.
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445497949555806211	@PatrickDFarley @sentientist I'd want them to inherit some of the genes yes. Obv the trait runs through my fam tree, but so does entrepreneurial success and wealth...
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445497564984266769	@PatrickDFarley @sentientist It is correlated with more creativity and divergent thinking, both in patients and in their genetic relatives who may not have the problematic symptoms... Entrepreneurs are much more likely to have bipolar, as are great figures in history esp art and literature...
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445496834122608652	@PatrickDFarley @sentientist Well, the second personal example gets more pushback, which is that I've been diagnosed with bipolar 2, which is pretty clearly a genetic disease, but on net I think it's more superpower than disability...
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445491152405229569	@sentientist I'm probably overstating the evidence, but it makes sense- kids who love to read spend more time in the library and end up with worse eyes. I'd prefer to fix our vision problem by getting kids outside rather than by eliminating a gene that causes higher IQ aka neurodiversity.
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445490400819515398	@sentientist Personal example- I'm nearsighted and it sucks, I wish I had 20/20 vision. But the gene they've correlated to poor vision is also correlated with higher intelligence... There's also research suggesting a major factor in nearsightedness is not enough time outdoors in childhood..
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445488668584542212	@sentientist I think you're missing the point on neurodiversity, which is that some of these traits are only maladaptive in a particular environment and that the same genes that cause "illness" may still be a net benefit for society.
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445415543020957699	@matthewstoller Wtf does "use algorithms" mean? Use code?
2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445414455958024192	@Bertie799 @sentientist To be fair, if your goal is to eliminate certain deafness-causing genes from the gene pool that is the literal definition of genocide. The question is whether that's a bad thing.

2021-10-05	twitter	reply	https://mimi10v3.com/notes/x-1445381000004096015	@razibkhan Is your point that we should cancel all the child-related benefits and subsidies so as to not "treat them like a burden" but let families do it on their own as they do in developing countries?
