Inferno

Dante Alighieri’s *Inferno* is the first canticle of the *Divine Comedy*, a monumental work of medieval Italian literature that charts the poet’s descent through the nine circles of Hell. Guided by the Roman poet Virgil, Dante navigates a landscape of sin and punishment, where the architecture of the underworld reflects the moral and theological order of the universe. The journey serves as an allegory for the soul’s path toward redemption, moving from the confusion of earthly error toward the clarity of divine light.
