This site does not sell personal information, run advertising trackers, or create accounts for visitors.

Analytics

When analytics is enabled, this site uses a self-hosted Matomo installation to understand aggregate visits, popular pages, referring sites, device types, approximate regions, and the public pages visitors move between. Searches made in the public notes and library are recorded with the search phrase, the part of the site searched, and the number of results so that missing or hard-to-find material can be improved.

Analytics does not record admin activity, recommendation or contact-form text, personal book notes, or review contents. Page addresses are recorded without query strings or fragments. The tracker is configured without analytics cookies and is instructed to respect browser Do Not Track preferences.

Matomo is operated by mimi rather than an advertising network. Analytics data is used to understand readership and improve the site; it is not sold or used for behavioral advertising.

External links and embedded services

Links to Bluesky, X, GitHub, Substack, and other sites take you to services with their own privacy practices. This site does not automatically load social-media embeds on its own pages.

Book recommendations

When a recommendation is submitted, the site records its server timestamp and transforms the source IP address into a one-way keyed hash for rate limiting, spam prevention, and moderation. The raw address is not placed in the recommendation record, and neither value is displayed publicly.

A recommendation may publicly display the selected book, endorsement, signoff, and optional link only when the submitter consents and the recommendation passes moderation. Repeated abusive or rejected submissions may cause the source address to be blocked from making further suggestions.
