My Ántonia

My Ántonia is a lyrical, semi-autobiographical novel set on the Nebraska prairie in the late nineteenth century. Narrated by the adult protagonist, Jim Burden, the story recounts his childhood friendship with Ántonia Shimerda, the daughter of Bohemian immigrants who struggle to survive on the harsh frontier. The narrative captures the rhythms of agricultural life, the resilience of immigrant communities, and the profound, unspoken bond between the two children as they grow apart under the vast sky.
