Princeps

Princeps is the second installment in L. E. Modesitt Jr.'s Imager Portfolio, a series set in the same world as his Dragonlance novels but focusing on a distinct political and military narrative. The story follows Quaeryt, a young imager who serves as an advisor to Lord Bhayar, the ruler of the Empire of the Isles. As the empire faces internal unrest and external threats, Quaeryt must navigate the complex web of court intrigue, military strategy, and the ethical implications of using magical power in governance. The novel explores the tension between the rigid structures of imperial authority and the chaotic, often destructive nature of elemental magic.
