Xenocide

In this installment of the Ender's Game series, the protagonist returns to the planet Lusitania, where a fragile coexistence has been established between humans, the insectoid Hive Queen, and the small, intelligent pequeninos. This delicate balance is threatened by the descolada, a virus that is lethal to humans but essential for the pequeninos' development. Fearing a galactic pandemic, the Starways Congress orders the total destruction of the planet, forcing Ender to navigate a moral and military crisis that challenges the very definition of xenocide.

Card's narrative maintains the series' characteristic focus on ethical complexity and the psychological weight of command. The prose is direct and plot-driven, serving as a vehicle for exploring themes of bioethics, the value of different forms of life, and the consequences of political fear. The story functions as a hard science fiction exploration of how advanced civilizations might interact with alien biology, blending military strategy with philosophical inquiry into the nature of personhood and survival.
