It depends on the circumstance, but one thing I'd consider is offering to buy them something in return so it's hopefully evened out.
idk we aren't that close that's the thing... occasionally a guy invites me to something rather expensive / goes out of his way for me and then it doesn't end in sex and i feel vaguely like I owe him, but otoh also like it's awkward to repay someone for his sexual disappointment?
