pondering why some ppl come here and like the vibes and stay while others come and then go back to twitter to say it is boring or there's no conflict or something... imo there IS a peacefulness n creativity thing here rn, a norm of not smashing into someone's replies w aggro fighting energy...

I'm drawn to this, feel there's something precious abt a place that feels safer to remove some armor and be vulnerable w simple joys n creative projects n taking social risks in public not DMs...

but also I do feel like it's important to have space for all kinds of positive interactions including sharp disagreements n realness abt negative emotions n even space for less-socially-skilled ppl to fumble and be annoying so they can learn

some theories abt why the difference... 1) time, 1st day of school effect 2) invite selection effect- ppl who are enjoyable being pulled in first n just more of them rn 3) invite selection setting a *tone* 4) scaling- no audience means no stakes, not worth a fight 5) smol UX diffs change behavior

6) lack of highbie-lowbie dynamic? imo twitter suffers from highbies becoming reactive n negative, common imo it's the scale itself- too many DMs n mentions piling up n some containing aggro energy, ofc you put up defenses n complain... vs lowbies feeling unheard and ignored if no engagement
