@sentientist I think you're missing the point on neurodiversity, which is that some of these traits are only maladaptive in a particular environment and that the same genes that cause "illness" may still be a net benefit for society.

@sentientist Personal example- I'm nearsighted and it sucks, I wish I had 20/20 vision. But the gene they've correlated to poor vision is also correlated with higher intelligence... There's also research suggesting a major factor in nearsightedness is not enough time outdoors in childhood..

@sentientist I'm probably overstating the evidence, but it makes sense- kids who love to read spend more time in the library and end up with worse eyes. I'd prefer to fix our vision problem by getting kids outside rather than by eliminating a gene that causes higher IQ aka neurodiversity.
