@RokoMijic We really do have a problem with mass incarceration and using the criminal justice system to deal with social ills like addiction and mental illness. The war-on-drugs had a racist undertone and was used to justify illiberal policies like no-knock warrants and asset forfeiture.
@RokoMijic There IS a lot of recognition that non-white Americans have been fucked over historically, that the legacy of injustice is still visible today, and that we need to acknowledge it to heal and move forward to a more just future.
@RokoMijic But there's a difference between acknowledging injustice and wanting the future to be better, vs buying into the calculus of ancestral privilege and guilt that says we should inflict harms on white people to balance out past harms to non-whites.
