@vgr From military family, I think US vets learn a certain form of teamwork- "everyone pull their weight" "fall in line, any decision is better than chaos, even tho some will be boneheaded" and most of all "leave no man behind"... How it translates politically varies
@vgr Service does throw together units from varied backgrounds, they learn tolerance and build team cohesion through shared suffering and humor and effort rather than identity. Otoh they get cynical about the normal dysfunction of large bureaucracies / govt / politicians.
