@xlr8harder @samswoora @Thaumautomaton Comes from metalworking- heat up steel and then cool slowly so the grain aligns more, makes it stronger… w optimization, the “heat” is making things more fluid w larger steps that might get out of a local optima, and then cooling again to fine tune hopefully in a better place
