“verified” is a meme, but imo they’re coming at it backwards- limit changes to the @ username and make it more prominent / better contrast… then provide a profile entry for a link out to other web properties where the twitter handle is listed as associated w that property
Like, any news site should have a page that lists staff & freelance journalists with their associated twitter handles, and then journalists put a link to that page into their twitter profile as a way to show they are the “real” WaPo reporter named John Doe or whatever
Maybe limit links to orgs w associated domain list that pay a fee to be a verification source and then manually review the orgs for spam / deception…

Delegation is what makes this work- let Harvard figure out how to curate a list of current students, alumni, staff… just charge them a big ass yearly fee to put Harvard icons next to twitter handles, they’re already incentivized to protect the brand
Search filter by affiliation would be useful AF too- see news of a Harvard sex scandal then filter to see all the takes from affiliated accounts… Filter by Mensa affiliation would be funny af too 🤭
