@ask_ourself To productivity-maxxx you need to be no more constrained than the US in other factors. Can’t grow many crops if you can’t get them to market before they go bad. Expensive corrupt supply chain also drives up cost of fertilizer etc inputs.

@ask_ourself Small *subsistence* farms are less productive because they’re not all-in on best cash crop but are growing a mix to reduce risk of total failure & to scale to local market

@ask_ourself Also fragmented traditional land ownership without proper records means inefficiency in land use- ppl will be trying to farm marginal inherited land that we’d leave fallow in the US, with predictably worse results
