@gfodor Matrix ref aside, what I'm unsure abt is the sadists & consciousness... if sadists only get real pleasure from doing real harm w real stakes... flat NPCs won't do it, they'll want fully simulated characters to torment... but does a sufficiently hi-fi simulation gain consciousness in order to have the desired capabilities and if so does it deserve moral consideration of its suffering & lack of free will?
