what beliefs do you hold in spite of wishing it weren't so?

oh, by "wishing it weren't so" I mean it would make you psychologically more comfortable to not believe it

for me... well obviously the stats on female vs male IQ distribution and young children's play preferences by gender- like, i'd rather believe it's all cultural and bias that can be fixed vs i'm an unfeminine misfit. the belief that shitty & unfair things just happen, vs would strongly prefer to believe there's some deeper meaning in suffering or the universe will somehow balance out... this one switches when i'm hypomanic tbh

and I find it unsettling the amygdala is so involved in decision making and they can detect the decision before you're consciously aware of it... and confabulation- starting w conclusion and creating plausible stories for how you got there and then believing that's the "truth" 😵‍💫

another thought that bothers me- minimum viable suffering- that pain and frustration and all of it exist to keep us alive... plus hedonic adaptation, that awareness of improvement fades back to baseline...
