what i hate about cults isn't just mainstream negative vibes towards the word but specifically the pattern of narrowing the experiences / thoughts / decisions / freedom of cult members. idk if my animosity towards the concept is excessive...? and i do recognize that the followers wanting to hand over their agency is a big contributing factor it isn't only on the leaders (tho it IS in the sense they could be scrupulous abt encouraging agency & responsibility in their friends and not accepting the role)
and wrt e/acc it has been a personal mission of mine to encourage independent thinking & action, push against centralized control, ensure the edges are porous and no one is penalized for "e/acc except..." or changing their mind
