@mechanical_monk oh yeah i'm not saying it is ideal, i'm saying it's been possible for long enough that we've allowed other priorities to displace social cohesion
@mechanical_monk otoh the other things are important too... much more acceptance of "deviance", much less energy spent on deportment & finishing schools, laws protecting ppl from getting better/worse treatment due to social networks & heritage, women more free to leave abusive marriages, etc
