recently reminded of my experience of EmRes with @CedricBertelli and idk if i've fully described it in a tweet before, but i highly highly recommend booking a session with him if you struggle with particular triggers & unwanted emotional reactions
anyway, he (& others) were recommended to me after a fight w my bf where in retrospect i'd been pretty unhinged bec triggered & reacting to a memory of past abusive relationship, wanted to do *something* so i wouldn't react like that again, tho also skeptical of talk therapy
disclaimer- i'm not an expert / don't fully understand *why* it works but wanted to share firsthand experience of *Therapy-Type Thing That Works* given how much i complain abt all the therapy that didn't
Oh also he does free consultation calls so that's first, just a chat about what you want to accomplish and what to expect and answers questions etc
Cedric was the first one with availability- probably because EmRes is like... 1 to 3 sessions per issue, he doesn't have a calendar full of longtime clients and also isn't licensed therapist so not part of the healthcare system, just pay out of pocket (imo very worth it!)
He will repeat back what you said to evoke it again and see if you still feel as intense reaction, and asks related questions to kinda look for other related emotions to get *all* of it- ig this can take more than one session? tho for me it didn't
Then the actual session. He asks you just enough about your most recent related memory so you evoke the feelings you want to change, then he coaches you through feeling it fully & intensely in your body while also being safe & grounded so you get through it
It was pretty tiring and not exactly fun, but afterwards i noticed that there was this absence of tension in a particular spot in my back i'd previously been numb to & didn't notice until it was gone, but being freed of it was a feeling of relief till i adapted to the new normal
i also noticed i wasn't so emotionally reactive in the same way anymore when previously triggering things would happen. this was pretty remarkable because the trauma was like 18 years in the past and i'd never found anything else to help actually feel *better* about it
anyway, this thread is an endorsement of doing EmRes w Cedric if you have similar issues with old trauma, and probably he can help with other things too... but also it's like... i think i understand better what it means to "feel your feelings" & trauma is stored in the body
