jester's privilege is too good a deal these days- when everyone sees the benefit and appoints themselves The Guy Who Says What No One Is Allowed to Say, well actually everyone IS saying it and being edgy starts to look just unkind
also.... the role of court jester is to intelligently poke at the pretensions of their own ingroup, to make the kings uncomfortable and fight groupthink gathering a following of people who like your message of hate towards outgroup is... not that.
imo the common mistake is to exclude some outgroup from your sphere of concern- to label them the enemy, to treat them as irredeemable, to glory in their downfall rather than seek reconciliation & redemption.
