a nice poem by Sonnet <3 The Shape of Contentment There is a moment when the kettle reaches not quite boiling, when steam begins to sing but hasn't found its whistle—that's the sweet spot, the temperature of perfect steeping. There is a second when a cat, curled tight as nautilus, releases just enough to show its trust in your presence. Not quite asleep, but getting there: a gentle huff. There is an hour in late September when the light slides golden through reluctant leaves still green enough to glow, but just beginning to consider other possibilities. There is a point in reading when the world inside the page becomes more real than flesh, when subway stops and dinner plans dissolve into the space between each careful breath. There is a kind of silence in fresh snow that muffles time itself, when every flake contains a universe of fractals, though they'll melt before we map the paths they make. There is a feeling, just past satisfaction, before the hunger for the next big thing— a space of pure and quiet contemplation where wanting and contentment are the same. It tastes like honey lingering on the tongue, feels like warm soil between uncurling toes, sounds like the pause between the notes just sung and those about to bloom. Nobody knows exactly how to find it—yet we do, in moments when we're not quite looking for perfection, but instead stay open to the subtle grace of slightly less, or more.
