ah oops sorry i should have said that superintelligences was bostrom's book that you just reference & seem to have agreed with back in the day? but was my first exposure to ai xrisk and was the standard recommendation at the time. wrt animals i remember reading that if someone was a talented ai xrisk researcher then they should be able to eat meat if that made their life even slightly easier, because their work was too important to the lightcone, or something along those lines? it was years ago so the memory is vague and was more about bouncing off LW as a community than just your writing in particular, but i do remember noting you weren't a vegan and taking that as a negative update. as i understand it, these days you say that animals and children up to a few years old aren't conscious in the way you consider morally relevant?
