i think it depends how you make the transition and how you add up the value- factory farming supports very large numbers of animals and plants with very poor quality of life and extremely small genetic diversity vs what is possible if the land is allowed to return to nature. we get there by not continuing to forcibly breed livestock and spray and cultivate so many acres of corn and soy to the exclusion of perennials and forest regrowth
