Tour of the Calculus

I've owned this book since childhood when I bought it from a bookstore for unclear weird kid reasons. At any rate, I read it before I studied algebra and think it was a good influence to ground my intuitive understanding of calculus before I got confronted with a worksheet of exercises and formulas to memorize.

David Berlinski invites readers on a conceptual tour of calculus, treating the subject not as a collection of mechanical rules but as a profound meditation on continuity. He explores how the introduction of limits and real numbers allows the infinite to be managed, transforming abstract mathematical operations into a language for describing time, space, and change. The narrative moves from the intuitive notion of a function as a relationship between numbers to the deeper philosophical implications of analyzing the infinite.
