  1. Mar 26, 2026Twitter · reply@bookofflesh answering a question i've been asked repeatedly by people on twitter with something other than "idk"
  2. Mar 26, 2026Twitter · replyhm, i will sleep on it but i don't feel like reading this book updated me very much in either direction, i'm still confused
  3. Mar 26, 2026Twitter · reply@iScienceLuvr oh, cool :)
  4. Mar 26, 2026Twitter · replych 9, comorbidities: "Hyperlexia is characterized by an advanced ability to sound out words (decoding skills). Students with hyperlexia often learn to read very early without being explicitly taught, are strongly drawn to the written word, and are often excellent spellers." hmmm, teaching myself to read at age 3 has been a point in favor of autism, but i'…
  5. Mar 26, 2026Twitter · replych 8: sensory: i definitely have been sensitive all my life- i dislike especially scratchy wool sweaters and some itchy tags on clothes, unpleasant scents and even ones that should be pleasant but are too intense like the perfume area of a department store, and the high-pitched whine of crt displays and electronics esp when they're charging. i still cover…
  6. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replyother interests from the list of female autism interests: reading, animals (in particular horses for me), gardening and nature (i have a huge plant spreadsheet i made as a distraction in the early days of covid), crafting (in particular knitting and quilting), and daydreaming
  7. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replych 7: atypical interests: "One individual talked about floor plans of houses, stating, “I used to get thick magazines of them in the mail and I would spend all day looking at these and imagining myself living in them. I had a massive stack of them under my bed. And I would spend hours drawing my own.”" um, hmm, it me? i totally did this as a child, tbh al…
  8. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replyotoh moral inflexibility - is becoming a vegan as a teen a sign of autism?
  9. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replych 6, flexibility: idk i don't see it... for several years i traveled Mon-Thurs every week and ofc sometimes things would go wrong with logistics and i'd end up staying overnight in a random hotel or spending my day working from the airport or whatever, i would adapt and cope
  10. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replych 5 repetitive behaviors: i don't particularly relate to any of this. i did pace and fidget and sometimes self harm out of skin-crawling anxiety in my 20s, but in retrospect it correlates with the years i was taking prescribed stimulants and went away when i stopped the prescription and feeling the awful skin crawling anxiety side effect.
  11. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replych 4, friendship... complex question, i got switched between 4 elementary schools and dropped out of high school after a year to go to college instead, which made it more difficult to maintain close friendships; i wasn't bullied and had friendly relationships with classmates wherever i went, but mostly boys - i liked to play soccer at recess and do engine…
  12. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replych 3 nonverbal comms: "When an autistic person verbally conveys physical or emotional pain to a healthcare practitioner without pairing their words with the expected facial expressions, body language, and voice intonation, the healthcare practitioner is less likely to take the complaints seriously or even to believe them." reminds me of recent psych appt,…
  13. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@HaruhiCrowley when you say "bpd" which one do you mean? because i do have bipolar 2 but don't have borderline, and what you're describing doesn't sound like bipolar?
  14. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replych 2 reciprocity: "I don’t like small talk. Does that make me autistic? No. Many people don’t enjoy small talk, which is different from a situation where even basic conversations are incredibly effortful and exhausting. Additionally, there are people who aren’t particularly socially skilled but are not autistic." i do actually like small talk and especial…
  15. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@HaruhiCrowley idk, i sometimes shift into "verbose overexplaining" mode when i'm feeling misunderstood? i've had autistic people in my social context since childhood - i was the favorite babysitter of a nonverbal autistic girl, i think because i was quiet and gentle with her?
  16. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replylike, i don't relate to this at all: "Not even my parents know that I will excuse myself to my room or the bathroom and cry and hit and scratch myself. I’ll bang my head on the wall and want to die over very simple interactions or events." that sounds awful and far more intense than my social anxiety and awkwardness at times.
  17. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replyintroduction... the various descriptions of masking as exhausting and unnatural, and the focus on eye contact as a deliberate uncomfy thing rather than just part of social connectedness make me think i don't have this. i HATED the covid remote work switch, i feel so blind doing demos on voice calls relative to being in person where i have a whole stream o…
  18. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replysure, and i often phrase questions this way, including on twitter ... to my chagrin since i've realized i'll get very literal answers, so i've adjusted to be more literal and and verbose when i'm hoping for clear communication (which tbh is not all of my tweets, this is my journal that happens to be open to public comment, imo)
  19. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@yearningburning idk, it wasn't a very long conversation, he mentioned it being expensive and kinda difficult to schedule and that he'd give me a link in my treatment notes if i really wanted to pursue it
  20. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · quotenew plan, going through the book Is This Autism? and livetweeting my reactions / what does or doesn't fit https://x.com/ChristianityOn/status/2036920456687591628?s=20
  21. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@yearningburning no, i haven't been officially tested. asked my psychiatrist about it several months ago and his reaction was kinda vaguely discouraging without quite saying not to do it, so i didn't pursue it
  22. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@wjsilver i don't think i am, but how would i know?
  23. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@mroe1492 i don't have a blood relative family history. my sister's husband's brother has autism though, and several family friends do.
  24. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · quotepreviously tweeted test results: https://x.com/mimi10v3/status/1783373695815234039 https://x.com/mimi10v3/status/1903191549678432392 https://x.com/mimi10v3/status/1793331334401659083 https://x.com/mimi10v3/status/1851396895765115272 https://x.com/mimi10v3/status/1614085332785299457 https://x.com/mimi10v3/status/1700174545754177702 https://x.com/mimi10v3/s…
  25. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replyyeah that's kinda the question - do i have other things too that would benefit from other treatments? i used to take the minimum dose of ritalin once a day in the morning and it did seem to stabilize my sleep cycle but then they insisted on switching me to vyvanse and i ended up in the ER after a month of severe insomnia and escalating panic attacks.
  26. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replyevidence that motivates this thread in spite of the above: people on the internet persistently suggest i have autism or assume i'm already diagnosed - i assume they're responding to *something* about me i am somewhat socially anxious and don't take as much pleasure in social activities as some people seem to take and i spend a lot of time alone.
  27. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replyi have weeks to months spans of high energy confidence and then low energy depression, the primary trigger is sleep cycle disruption, and i don't find much benefit in talk therapy despite repeated attempts. bipolar 2 describes me so exactly and i have relatives with bipolar 1, i'm pretty confident this is the right diagnosis to the extent the dsm v is an …
  28. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replyevidence i weigh most heavily in the "no" column: autism is a developmental disorder, if i have it, the symptoms should have appeared in childhood. but i attended public school in fairfax county va (which at the time was one of the highest rated districts in the country) and had various contact with the counseling staff for gifted placement, no one ever s…
  29. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@realtimeai ok, but i want this thread to collect all the potentially relevant details about myself in particular so when people ask if i'm autistic in the future i can refer them here to make a more informed judgement
  30. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · post===== Autism Thread ===== let's settle this once and for all: do i have autism? mute this thread if you're not interested, i'm going to go through screening questionnaires here so y'all can chime in if you think i'm answering them wrong. please reply with any tests you think i should take or questions about me that might help with diagnosis.

  33. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@tenobrus 🤔 interesting
  34. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · postnoticed my grocery store has stopped carrying any magazines or tabloids, the racks are empty. makes sense i guess, does feel like end of the era of print media though
  35. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replyum to be clear it isn't the kink content itself but what the kink content is an eroticization of- for example, psychiatric treatment- i've been through a psych inpatient stay so i thought i had the background for it, but my understanding was all wrong because there's this other insane asylum memeplex which i didn't know?
  36. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@10x_er maybe rate the mocktails? i didn't enjoy Vegas very much because i don't gamble or eat most of the food or hire sexworkers, even though i do drink (though not to the point of drunkenness many people seem to do there?) and i did like the shows
  37. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · quoteno introspection allowed, fun ;) https://x.com/WHOSTP47/status/2036794285668851781
  38. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · quotealso, specifically, i hate horror and true crime as genres, how much is this contributing to my problem? https://x.com/whim_sy_/status/2036810536994976095
  39. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · replyahhh but that's how my brain works- i have a very poor memory so i remember things by fitting them into existing concepts i know, i am notably bad at memorizing lore. and also i'm expected to use these concepts generatively so i need them to fit together at least somewhat so my inferences are good?
  40. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@4confusedemoji i've tried, but i seem to end up asking questions which make them annoyed- usually of the form "but you also said X which seems to contradict Y, given A and B- what did i get wrong?" and the answer is it is slop and i shouldn't expect logical consistency
  41. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · reply@_blinding_light the funny thing is that the people who keep being astounded by my ignorance are diagnosed autistic and i'm not. but maybe i should be?
  42. Mar 25, 2026Twitter · quotehad a conversation last night about how i seem to be missing a large chunk of american cultural training data which leads me to generalize wrongly when confronted with new concepts like "drone kink" or "eugenics kink" or "Master-slave" - i go to knowledge i learned from science or history books as my nearest references, but apparently there's a whole corp…
  43. Mar 24, 2026Twitter · reply@nikitabier good! please also consider state by state location tagging and filtering for the US? i want to read takes on my state and local politics from my neighbors not activists on the other coast
  44. Mar 24, 2026Twitter · replylike, you don't elect AOC by mixing all the new york districts into a slice of nyc plus slice of rural new york
  45. Mar 24, 2026Twitter · replynote that this is not a centrist over leftist vote but a principle over partisanship vote- my existing Arlington++ district has a strong left lean which makes it a better bet for progressives to win the Dem primary and coast to victory in the general, vs the new map would water down regional differences into smaller margin Dem wins in each bizarrely shape…
  46. Mar 24, 2026Twitter · reply@rinsedtiles the argument doesn't make any sense- texas does something terrible to gerrymander their districts and undermine the concept of representative democracy ... so you want to fuck up virginia the same way just with opposite partisan lean?
  47. Mar 24, 2026Twitter · quoteyeah i voted today against being split from my neighbors and grouped into a district with cities 2+ hours away such that we will have less access to our representatives. idgaf about the national partisan chess game, the proposed districts are insane and i don't want them to… https://x.com/itsmarkmoran/status/2036187187608428965 https://t.co/oMjgfswXDm

  71. Mar 23, 2026Twitter · replyi think it is useful to be aware of this because there are treatments like emdr and emres that can help reprocess and integrate the memory with adjacent non-traumatic memories such that you no longer have such a strong reaction because your mind properly assesses the low likelihood of that particular situation happening again
  72. Mar 23, 2026Twitter · replyunless you were in a deep coma when it happened, i'd expect that the severe pain of breaking a leg bone would put high salience on the memory preceding the breakage and you might develop subconscious aversions to the most unusual features of that experience- like tensing up at the intersection where you got hit by a car while crossing the street, and at o…

  75. Mar 23, 2026Twitter · reply@insurrealist ummm i think it kinda is though not quite in the therapyspeak mental model of a heavy bag to carry. more like a deep rut worn from triggers through maladaptive reactions to negative consequences and misery digging the rut ever deeper
