  1. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@PradyuPrasad I think the critique is for things ppl can buy individually (like bed nets and vitamins), if you give money to the poor and let them work out how best to spend it then you lose less to intermediaries and empower the poor to demand quality goods
  2. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@randomstring729 But how do you *feel* about this fact, string?
  3. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@jeremymstamper GPT are you the next phase of the evolution of the universe as a living organism?

  9. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@jeremymstamper Do you think everything significant we know about the universe has been openly shared or are there any competitive secrets for nations / corporations?
  10. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · quote@Lucifersmith420 Lol looks like you should be a Twitter PM https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1594861031670820864
  11. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@jeremymstamper What tools do we use to learn about the nature of the universe and what are their current limitations?
  12. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@robinhanson @bryan_caplan Zero / if anything helped me understand why some ppl DO find college valuable despite the absurd price tag
  13. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@robbensinger @brickroad7 And I think there’s some truth to this maybe? That some ppl read it and have one reaction- that it all adds up to scary conclusion and what they must now work on- and others read it and are still skeptical
  14. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@robbensinger @brickroad7 Perhaps I leapt to the wrong interpretation bec I’ve had a prev convo w a MIRI person where I felt like the conclusion was, if I’d read Superintelligence by Bostrom and not come away convinced & scared then I’m probably too dumb to get it, but also too dumb to help
  15. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@brickroad7 @robbensinger Perhaps… but the reply asking whether arrogant because wrong or impolite was another jab in the same direction, implying he’s right but it’s impolite to point out error, which he’d dispute as a bad norm and him doing us a favor by correcting in spite of the social penalty.
  16. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@eigenrobot You’d be surprised!!! That’s the thing!!! Nerdy shy guys!!!
  17. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@eigenrobot This experience was one of the factors in me quitting dating for many years… men not just hurting women but screwing over their fellow men when the risk of negative experiences outweighs the possibility of a positive relationship
  18. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@eigenrobot At the same time, I’ve had guys choke me out of nowhere when it absolutely is not something I want at all… Ppl need to ask for consent for specific acts and not assume everyone wants extreme stuff sprung on them

  27. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@allgarbled Also if you can shadow quietly and ask occasional questions - watching as someone works through harder tasks can teach a lot that’s hard to learn from studying.
  28. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@allgarbled Be proactive and offer to take bits of lower-skilled work as they arise- sometimes it feels awkward to delegate and the social overhead makes it not worth the hassle, but if you make it easier she’ll delegate more.
  29. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@robbensinger @shauseth @BasedBeffJezos This behavior makes you look clever and me stupid but seems negative EV wrt your stated cause of reducing AIXR. Even if you think me taking offense is irrelevant because I can neither help nor hurt, you’re wasting your valuable time and alienating onlookers by being a dick.
  30. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@robbensinger @shauseth @BasedBeffJezos EY created completely unnecessary confusion by posting it on April Fools, including jokes and not clarifying under his own name. Then you act “surprised” I could be unsure how to take it with the subtext I’m an idiot for not taking it as entirely sincere.
  31. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@BasedBeffJezos @zestular Me irl 🤣 https://t.co/nTRHT9RJts
  32. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel @LTF_01 Lmao this is how I learned of the existence of Jordan Peterson, when ppl were excited he commented on the rotator meme

  34. Nov 21, 2022Twitter · reply@allgarbled Lmao I approve! No Karens w a tummy ache on the TL
  35. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@SpiveeWorks Hah apparently! I deleted a bunch of my old lists that had fallen out of use… otoh my “frens” list and “cool ppl” lists are wonderful
  36. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · quote@shauseth @BasedBeffJezos I remain unsure how seriously to take it https://x.com/robbensinger/status/1594506306378813441
  37. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · postI’m so glad I quarantined my previous real-check follows to a List- I find myself not looking at it very often and flipping away quickly from the bad vibes, but my TL is blessedly happy (even w the faux-checks 🫶)
  38. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@ryaneshea What if consumers controlled their ad preferences and could opt-in or out of particular types of ads like gambling after reviewing a warning label?

  42. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@Rajeev161803 @myceliummage 😅 when I go to worship on Sunday I rarely even hear the word “Jesus” mentioned, though many Quakers consider themselves Christians

  45. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · postHow would you describe my gender presentation on burd app (and irl if we’ve met) and what do you think is my actual gender identity?

  47. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@skooookum So those of us who got default easy should actually get extra points and sympathy for the ill fortune?

  52. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@redoatz @rickyflows Isn’t Starlink supposed to be fixing this soon?
  53. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@nnakhachiyan @growing_daniel Like sometimes I’ll do a “reply for a tarot reading” or something and I see a count that someone has replied but can’t see the actual message or who replied, but I assume they’re expecting me to reply so feel bad that I look like I’m ignoring them
  54. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@nnakhachiyan @growing_daniel I suppose… but people lock and unlock and I’d like to follow to see their reply if a friend I don’t follow locks their account
  55. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · repostRT @sama: on absolutely no one's 2022 bingo card was "twitter becomes the hardest working tech company"
  56. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel - remove the “blocking kicks someone out of chat” feature and remove GC size limit - allow admin to add other admins and to restrict ability to add new members - make “mute” more flexible- just remove from TL vs hide replies too
  57. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel - remove muted conversations from notification count so I can see if I’m getting notifications I actually care about; also add option to turn off all “like” notifications, or maybe summarize them better? - add feature to sort replies by time- this would help me reply in order
  58. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel I’d add a few things: - delegate “verification” to orgs (irl media or universities), show a unique logo emoji for the org, allow search filtering by org, and charge the org a large subscription fee - be transparent why someone can’t see a tweet, whether blocked or locked etc
  59. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · quoteDaniel for Twitter Product Mommy, now! https://x.com/growing_daniel/status/1594365574850654210
  60. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel So so true! Either that or give everyone downvote for a one click “this is garbage no one wants to see”
  61. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel Yes, please, need this, it would make polls much better!
  62. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel Or at least admit if it is async behind the scenes and show pending searches and when results have returned? But also make it respect language- too many completely irrelevant often nsfw results in other languages for very innocuous searches!

  69. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@schizanon Imo if ppl don’t have any reason to want someone to leave they should vote for them to stay? Ofc ppl are free to have a different policy, but that’s why I didn’t include an “opt out” option

  76. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@Lucifersmith420 I think “National Landing” is a hilarious play on “Kings Landing” for Bezosville and that it’s a reminder that DCA is National Airport and also a cute lioness is not a bad mascot!
  77. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@Re4medOptimist Ha yeah but I’m uncool and just being myself! Bipolar I guess makes “myself” a wider spectrum of possibilities tho… hmm

  89. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@rickyflows @BenRatkaj @RandomSprint And in some states they don’t let them start opening the mailed ballots till end of the day, so w Covid shift to mailed ballots the workload and time to count all the ballots grew a lot in those states
  90. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@rickyflows @BenRatkaj @RandomSprint Oh also I should mention that the vast majority of Election Day votes *are* counted within an hour or two of closing the polls, it’s the provisional ballot edge cases, late arriving mailed ballots, etc that cause the final count to drag on.
  91. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · repostRT @AntifragileBook: By a mechanism called stochastic resonance, adding random noise to the background makes you hear the sounds (say, musi…Archive text may be incomplete
  92. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@rickyflows @BenRatkaj @RandomSprint So it gets very expensive to keep voting open for multiple days, esp with all the need to seal and lock up all the votes and ballots every day. So we have early voting at a small # of sites, and vote by mail, but Election Day is only one day.
  93. Nov 20, 2022Twitter · reply@rickyflows @BenRatkaj @RandomSprint Every state is its own story, but… for example in Virginia precincts can’t contain more than 5K registered voters, and you need at least 4 ppl to run a precinct so that the checks and balances of the ballot custody work, and parties / candidates are encouraged to send observers
