  26. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@marcpicciolo @mattyglesias @MattBruenig @groovy_boat Nope completely serious- happen to be working as a dev on an app that teaches reading, so asked my parents how I learned to read, they said when I was 3 I just announced I could and that was that. I dropped out after 9th grade, happiest day of my life.
  27. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@marcpicciolo @mattyglesias @MattBruenig @groovy_boat Hm, they must have a learning disability. I can't remember not being able to read and certainly didn't learn from a school!
  28. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@mattyglesias @MattBruenig @groovy_boat Yeah- just seems like it should be the default, rather than requiring parents to sign up for separate programs?
  29. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@johnlk_80 @andmoo222 @aliensinnoh @mattyglesias Then hire more? (Increase pay as needed so you can fill positions)
  30. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@johnlk_80 @andmoo222 @aliensinnoh @mattyglesias It doesn't need to be all at the same time- schedule regular substitutes on a rolling basis so each teacher gets a non-teaching day every 3 wks
  31. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@mattyglesias @MattBruenig @groovy_boat Yes! Admit that elementary school is childcare first, education second... Get rid of summer break and random closures, extend the school day to align with a normal workday (fill with sports and music and fun), relax wrt attendance so parents can schedule vacations anytime.

  35. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@tommyminnetonka Some form of anxiety + attentional disorder I'm sure. Love how they blame human nature rather than environment for everything.
  36. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@AbieRohrig @TetraspaceWest 🙄 so everyone needs to eat 99% less animals...
  37. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@whitewolf_works In all cases I had severe insomnia and spent most of my time daydreaming about food, unable to focus on productive work
  38. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@whitewolf_works Oh- vegan-unfriendly travel is another option- lost 10 lbs on a trip to Nigeria where I ate mostly plantains and pineapples for two weeks.
  39. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@whitewolf_works Other ways I've found weight loss success are backpacking, having a manic episode (tend to have trouble eating), and 90+ min daily high intensity workouts
  40. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@whitewolf_works I vote "no" because dieting seems to necessitate severe suffering to lose even a few lbs, is not worth the trade... However I did recently lose weight by running a 104 deg fever for a week- much easier than intentional dieting.
  41. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · quote@chuerta1 @Noahpinion Actually.... Noah had a good essay on who's "forced" to be here- https://x.com/Mimi_Peacock/status/1465561322708520962?t=t0C_MGi5BCnjZ0VqNyKy1Q&s=19

  44. Jan 25, 2022Twitter · reply@Noahpinion 🤦‍♀️ we should do this + a UBI that replaces standard deduction & child tax credit... Flat tax is so much easier to administer because you can collect it at point of transaction without knowing individual's full tax picture. Match charitable contrib via the charities not deduction
  45. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel Group bonding by leveling their status with other women... Important because women are too weak to survive on their own / need help with infants
  46. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@IntractableLion @arachnocapital2 Don't forget, the military is our job corp - those drone pilots are also being lifted from poverty.... creating even more jobs in healthcare to treat their resulting PTSD ... money for our contractors to rebuild infrastructure that we bomb... And justification of DARPA funding

  51. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@VicVijayakumar @ThinkInSysDev 🤣 ... We consultants do a specialized form of labor, negotiating intractable internal politics
  52. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@VicVijayakumar @ThinkInSysDev (and I'm specifically talking about those with their whole ego tangled up in the title, not everyone who happens to be assigned it)
  53. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@VicVijayakumar @ThinkInSysDev 🤣 principal engineers are great! Those who need the title of "distinguished engineer" are the difficult ones
  54. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@ThinkInSysDev @VicVijayakumar Lol, this guy was one of the technical founders of an acquired company but with such a difficult personality that he couldn't manage a team... Getting him on our side made everyone else more accommodating knowing they wouldn't be fighting him
  55. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@varunramg Caveat- except in abusive relationships in which case hard ghosting may be the safest way to escape
  56. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@VicVijayakumar @ThinkInSysDev (ofc plied him with fancy coffee and his favorite snacks, had our CEO stop by & thank for his time, wore V-neck sweater / pencil skirt / heels, gave wide-eyed adoring attention whenever he deigned to share a nugget of wisdom, heaped lavish praise while sneaking in corrections)
  57. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@VicVijayakumar @ThinkInSysDev 🤣 lmao ... Have dealt with a few "distinguished engineers" and this is 💯 accurate... My solution was to urgently beg for his last-minute travel to an off-site working session... Ego was stroked by our begging and approval of expenses, distractions were removed, we got signoff
  58. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@vgr forgot to mention, the reason for the cologne is to wear a healthy splash when visiting with friends- ask if they can smell it as another covid diagnostic indicator 😜

  69. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@nukethenate @hyperboreanterf (and yet it totally feels like a humblebrag with the subtext "I have 3 *sons* therefore I have succeeded as a wife and mother")
  70. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@nukethenate @hyperboreanterf Women who are like "I have 3 boys, they all play football and basketball and hockey... I do laundry all day and buy 8 gallons of milk per week... Lol life of a boy mom"

  87. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@edavidds @PrinceVogel I guess you might get the idea if you read this (publicly available, I'm not disclosing anything) https://resources.datadrivenmarketing.equifax.com/general-ddm/the-foundation-of-ixi-data
  88. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · quote@edavidds @PrinceVogel For example https://x.com/john_voorheis/status/1485760006301569025?t=mUrvftUHwiapcg2rzMGzsA&s=19
  89. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@edavidds @PrinceVogel Nope, I haven't written anything. Idk what to think today- everyone is hating on census bureau rn for changes to protect privacy and it's very much parallel.. If pundits & experts think it is ok to expose this data then maybe I'm the one taking privacy advocates too seriously 🤷‍♀️

  94. Jan 24, 2022Twitter · reply@saikatc @Noahpinion I don't think that's why Manchin nixed the BBB... He's talked about nuclear power as an option for replacing both coal power and coal jobs in WV- Dems should take him up on this!
