  1. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@MarkZweig @jbrowder1 At that point they aren't "businesses"... I believe the IRS calls them hobbies?
  2. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky So as a catboy you're saying progressives are hopelessly ignorant about transhuman rights?
  3. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@Morwenstow9 @KirkegaardEmil 💯
  4. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@maggiejuang1 @AndrewYang let's require informed consent from all crypto exchange customers! Since the only spec is in GitHub everyone will need to learn to read code... The theory of currencies and inflation will require some macroeconomics... And the crypto itself gives us number theory... Love it!
  5. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky (tbh, me too) https://xkcd.com/386/
  6. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky Huh... I've tried it all but concluded I prefer mostly vanilla, and don't think my more esoteric interests come from online content (like, they're all clearly tied to offline youthful experiences)... But I do feel bad for the guys with a pixelation fetish, given 5g...
  7. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky The funnier part is the idea of *fearing* your daughter may find a lucrative career as an independent business-woman on onlyfans... 😂
  8. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky pedant 😘
  9. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@Duderichy @Rationalbot @yhdistyminen @lightningtrent I've found that the more expensive the date, the less impressive the guy- quality dudes will shine no matter the atmosphere.
  10. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky & on-chain transactions are mostly boring old banks and brokers settling transactions between themselves, while the little guys are consigned to paying fees to RobinHood after PFOF is outlawed 🤣
  11. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@suprabhasupi git and whiteboard walls
  12. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@benjoux @somephant0m @RichardDawkins I ❤️ tinkerers and creatives, my own career is adding to the network we're communicating over... My complaint is that there's such a disconnect between academia and tech.
  13. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@StudleyDudley13 NoVA... So many Teslas in Tysons, need more colors or models or something so people can find their cars (or, like, other manufacturers could start building quality EVs... ahem)
  14. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@QiaochuYuan @Turbosloth3 Too much optimization for speed & size of harvest & max shelf life = degraded taste and less micronutrient accumulation; when healthy stuff tastes bland we compensate with more sugar & salt, when we get less nutrients we compensate by overeating calories...
  15. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@TurboKia @ulla_westin @RichardDawkins I mentor at work... Funnily enough my most recent mentoring conversation was pushing mentee to question the givens more often, after a pattern of getting stuck by assuming inputs were accurate when they were the source of the issue.
  16. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@ulla_westin @RichardDawkins Paradigm shifts are often delayed by calcified mindsets of tenured professors blocking research they don't understand. 1940 bridge collapse was still misrepresented in 1990s physics textbooks - https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1991AmJPh..59..118B/abstract
  17. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@benjoux @RichardDawkins (trust fund incentive terms + merit scholarship paid me to go to school, I would not have stayed if I'd had to take out loans)
  18. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@benjoux @RichardDawkins I have a masters in CS... It contributes very little to my tech day job where I build network tools. Correlation != Causation, being born into a wealthy family funds both university and post-grad leisure time to innovate.
  19. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@RichardDawkins You go to university to be indoctrinated with the prejudices of the previous generation and receive a certificate attesting to your ability to swallow BS without rebellion.
  20. Aug 9, 2021Twitter · reply@tszzl Best day of my life was when my parents agreed to let me unschool at 15. 3 hrs per day on a bus is not healthy, much better to spend my days outdoors and study a bit in the evenings.
  21. Aug 8, 2021Twitter · reply@WSJ 🤦‍♀️ anti-growth move to distract management and discourage investment when there's already delay and overflowing yards from cascading covid disruption
  22. Aug 8, 2021Twitter · reply@RationalEtienne @Liv_Boeree (not that I want it gone, but it needs a good cancelling to restore sane tweet:commit ratio)
  23. Aug 8, 2021Twitter · reply@RationalEtienne @Liv_Boeree Give a racist nickname to crypto, please 😉
  24. Aug 8, 2021Twitter · reply@SwiftOnSecurity @tbrzl So, only "old" in tech years 🙂

  26. Aug 7, 2021Twitter · reply@Probus_Indeed @SenToomey @TaxBit @CryptoTraderTax Thank you for paying your taxes. I wish everyone would. Perhaps I'm biased by my day job, but crypto *does* facilitate cybercrime.
  27. Aug 7, 2021Twitter · repostRT @TSpiritualGuide: https://t.co/j0RnlfDRkP
  28. Aug 6, 2021Twitter · reply@SenToomey It is a question of fairness- I'm careful to pay all of my taxes; people I've met in crypto brag about paying zero tax on their realized gains, I'm sick of subsidizing platforms where the social value is unclear and the cost is enabling cybercrime and money laundering.
  29. Aug 6, 2021Twitter · reply@NeerajKA Divide and conquer?
  30. Aug 6, 2021Twitter · repostRT @printfJess: "What about this?... Does it spark joy?" Me: "It's a production server, we need it." "Yes but, does it /spark joy/?"

  35. Aug 6, 2021Twitter · reply@expatnouveau @primalpoly @ewarren What I mean is that non-criminals transacting with criminals grants them legitimacy, like buying a car from a money laundering dealer... Also pouring money into btc would marginally increase the value of large cybercrim wallets
  36. Aug 6, 2021Twitter · reply@expatnouveau @primalpoly @ewarren People do use the word "protocol" a lot... As a network dev, I tend to reserve the world for well vetted rfcs... Perhaps this is actually at the root of my unease
  37. Aug 6, 2021Twitter · reply@expatnouveau @primalpoly @ewarren Also, the experience I do have with Bitcoin is paying cybercrims, I question the ethics of joining a platform that significantly lowers the cost of crime when I otherwise do not have a compelling need for it.
  38. Aug 6, 2021Twitter · reply@expatnouveau @primalpoly @ewarren The trouble is that people in low income countries often have limited internet connectivity, crypto built for them should be peer to peer not rely on continuous low latency connection among all the nodes. Also txn fees are way too high vs actual day to day transaction amts.
  39. Aug 6, 2021Twitter · reply@expatnouveau @primalpoly @ewarren I believe the regs are nonsense, because I've witnessed nonsense around net neutrality and privacy, where the laws as written are unenforceable and don't actually regulate the real concern, but with crypto I have a preexisting confusion about the purpose...
  40. Aug 6, 2021Twitter · reply@expatnouveau @primalpoly @ewarren I don't understand- if the benefit is "resists government control" but people are now freaking out about government control, that's more equivalent to news that legalized weed in shops is actually thc-free hemp?

  46. Aug 5, 2021Twitter · reply@primalpoly @ewarren I am puzzled- crypto-fans have told me that the killer feature of crypto is that the math makes it impossible for the government to take it from you ... If crypto is so easily destroyed by the stroke of a pen, what is the point??
  47. Aug 5, 2021Twitter · reply@Leo88Williams @WholeMarsBlog I think he doesn't *want* to do it alone, because he cares more about accelerating shift to EVs than about Tesla being the only winner.

  51. Aug 5, 2021Twitter · reply@sandyluvsboyz @WhiteHouse My solution is to charge at work; long-term, robotaxis should be cheaper than car ownership for urban populations and will charge themselves between uses.
  52. Aug 5, 2021Twitter · reply@WhiteHouse 😢 if you are ignoring Tesla, you have some other agenda than promoting EV adoption. Seems like lobbyist dollars count for more than actual climate impact.

  54. Aug 4, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky "reduce" in the sense of increase the risk-adjusted break even point for new development and lose some marginal units that would've been built... And reduce interest in renting out a basement or guesthouse or seasonal home.
  55. Aug 4, 2021Twitter · reply@TreciaKS I think it's very useful in certain situations like diagnosing and fixing production issues and is a great way to learn / mentor.
  56. Aug 4, 2021Twitter · reply@_AstroGuy_ Fair, but if you were going to the ISS which capsule would you choose? Boeing's history of software failures is scary.

  59. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@mer__edith @roybahat @ekaziunas For bipolar, someone in Fintech could build tools for setting limits and cooling off times / multiple signatures on large transactions?
  60. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@roybahat @pentagoniac The hardest part of bipolar imo is that no one takes it seriously when you're still well enough to ask for help, but then overcompensate once they're convinced it is serious (and you're beyond caring and kinda pissed they didn't listen a week ago)
  61. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@roybahat @pentagoniac Otoh proactive tools would be sooo useful- quantify behavioral changes and automate preplanned interventions to avoid the regrettable decisions
  62. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@roybahat @pentagoniac Yeah... As someone with bipolar, the day to day management to avoid an episode seems more hackable than the acute inpatient where you're mostly just drugged and surrounded by peers till calm enough to see a way ahead.
  63. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@TylerAlterman Go outside for a quiet walk in the dark, drink plenty of water, spend some time drafting in the slipstream of a friend 🙂

  66. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@mattyglesias Idk, but hopefully some of the money is spent on tech improvements- our ports still run on mainframes and manual spreadsheets.

  68. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky I'd be more in favor of this if Mensa was more competently run and managed.
  69. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@michaelcurzi I think the purpose is to remove the sting of any future aspersions by framing as a joke that the target initiated first- ie "you're laughing with me not at me" with a bit of "I don't actually think I'm that great so you don't need to take me down a peg"
  70. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@deepfates But it *can* be done in the right location with enough startup capital, a good business plan, and a lot of hard work... And these people *do* seem deeply content / purposeful / connected to nature and community.
  71. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@deepfates "all" 😏... I know millennials (and older folk) making a living via homesteading / agritourism, it's a different simpler lifestyle and there's usually one couple or parent/child at the helm
  72. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@AaronKClark I'd be even more concerned about her emotional immaturity and possible sociopathy... Teaching bad science can be corrected, bullying and humiliating a child causes lifelong damage.
  73. Aug 3, 2021Twitter · reply@ESYudkowsky Does this apply if you aren't looking for their honest opinion? Often an opinion is implicit in the framing- ie design or code reviews, you're showing your best guess and asking people to find problems. Iterated, your reaction after hearing a contrary position matters too.

  75. Aug 2, 2021Twitter · reply@ccieby30 Would you say the same thing about a condo if one person owns it outright and the other pays nothing towards maintenance or taxes? Idk if I'd be comfortable giving away 6-figure equity to a bf just for moving in.
  76. Aug 2, 2021Twitter · reply@JadenHalstead @KyleJDeFreitas @adamhoov @WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk And I live in an area where the limiting factor on Tesla purchases is inability to install a private charger, so I'm eager for it to happen asap
  77. Aug 2, 2021Twitter · reply@JadenHalstead @KyleJDeFreitas @adamhoov @WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk Eh I'm sure that Tesla engineers can figure it out, personally I just care that the problem is solved, but some ppl thought the roboarm wasn't practical at scale / over time
  78. Aug 2, 2021Twitter · reply@JadenHalstead @KyleJDeFreitas @adamhoov @WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk I'm sure a car could have both ports... But talking to urban planners and developers they push back on the idea of a charger for every parking spot and argue the future is shared chargers... I'd prefer an autonomous solution over manually shuffling cars around
  79. Aug 2, 2021Twitter · reply@JadenHalstead @KyleJDeFreitas @adamhoov @WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk Otoh automated car washes have long required drivers to put the car in neutral and keep hands off the wheel... Preferring to drive in normal conditions doesn't preclude using self driving for one car-length to align with a charger.
  80. Aug 2, 2021Twitter · reply@micsolana And if the argument is that the psych patient might harm himself or a nurse or others in his vicinity..... Idk why this argument wouldn't apply to covid vaccination as well
  81. Aug 2, 2021Twitter · reply@micsolana I'm sympathetic, but living by this principal would mean no longer injecting disruptive psych patients with sedatives without their consent.
  82. Aug 2, 2021Twitter · reply@paulg The part about the right-wing class system is accurate imo- that land-owning CoC gentry are more aligned on cultural resentment than at odds economically with the contractors they employ.

  91. Aug 1, 2021Twitter · reply@mattyglesias Ehh, even pre-covid we probably should've been using masks a little more for hospital visitors and crowded airport immigration lines...

  93. Aug 1, 2021Twitter · reply@JadenHalstead @KyleJDeFreitas @adamhoov @WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk This is why stab upward from below- charger can adjust z axis, car AI programmed for the right x/y. Maybe use Rogan's very strong magnets idea for charger to open the charging port cover 😛

  96. Jul 31, 2021Twitter · reply@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk My buddies were wondering why Teslas don't have a bottom charging port so they can autonomously drive into a charger spot, have the plug pop up into position, then drop back into the ground and the car repark itself once charged.

  100.
