@RokoMijic @yacineMTB Cloud providers are there to make money lol!!! There's always a markup you can save by cutting out the middleman and you're kinda constrained by their platform... is ofc worth it if you're smaller- don't have the scale to justify DIY- but at Twitter scale 🤷♀️
@RokoMijic @yacineMTB also, what you would do if you were building greenfield isn't necessarily what's best given existing infrastructure & presumably certain time sensitive data feeds
@RokoMijic @yacineMTB also the politics of running a global social media app- you have data sovereignty & compliance crap that varies a lot, it's not just a single problem to solve but like, a tangled nightmare w existing relationships & status quo you might not wanna disrupt

Reply · Aug 19, 2021@mattparlmer How much would you have to reinvent the wheel vs using existing cloud providers for infrastructure?Reply · Jun 17, 2023@cyphercat85 lol the source of their profits is AWS, I do kinda think the HQ could've been more datacenter-like tbhReply · Mar 15, 2023@PicoPaco17 @10x_er AWS probably hurts more from the heterogeneity than it would gain... maybe someone else tho w a different business model / aimed…Reply · Jan 30, 2023@xlr8harder imo it's Bezos... between logistics & AWS, he scales up & reduces cost of tech that supports other innovations
