@RokoMijic @yacineMTB Cloud providers are there to make money lol!!! There's always a markup you can save by cutting out the middleman and you're kinda constrained by their platform... is ofc worth it if you're smaller- don't have the scale to justify DIY- but at Twitter scale 🤷♀️
@RokoMijic @yacineMTB also, what you would do if you were building greenfield isn't necessarily what's best given existing infrastructure & presumably certain time sensitive data feeds
@RokoMijic @yacineMTB also the politics of running a global social media app- you have data sovereignty & compliance crap that varies a lot, it's not just a single problem to solve but like, a tangled nightmare w existing relationships & status quo you might not wanna disrupt

Reply · Aug 19, 2021@mattparlmer How much would you have to reinvent the wheel vs using existing cloud providers for infrastructure?Reply · Mar 6, 2023@RokoMijic @yacineMTB eh. if you were starting fresh you'd build it on new tech stack, pay a hellacious cloud bill as you scaled and shifted to more…Reply · Mar 7, 2023@RokoMijic @yacineMTB I mean depends how you calculate... I've seen ppl port to Cloud, or cloud to serverless, at the last min bec some Architect…Reply · Jun 17, 2023@cyphercat85 lol the source of their profits is AWS, I do kinda think the HQ could've been more datacenter-like tbh
