@vraiqx @___frye yeah - I think it's a fundamental problem to solve if you wanna build this - how to not have your initial users be disproportionately the most obnoxious disaffected abusive interfering hateful mob of ppl on the internet. on English-language bsky, it started out w techie insiders & scattered random users with nothing much to discuss, then tpot arrived... the OGs were confused & ppl started criticizing the "toxic positivity" and "techbros", with OGs feeling like tpot was an exclusive club with weird ingroup jokes and too much neurodiversity so they recruited artists for beautiful content, which brought along the NFT ppl and crypto/web3 ppl and AI Art, with predictable infighting & feed domination by NFT spam while serious artists realized the app was too small for reach. meanwhile also recruiting Black Tech Twitter which has leftwing activist / community organizer vibes (along w some disaffected ex-Twitter ppl stirring the pot) and immediately started demanding Trust & Safety changes ASAP, in perpetual outrage then they got a group of queer shitposters and trans ppl who mostly wanted to share their lewds with each other (unfortunately adult content moderation was pretty broken at first, so a lot of ppl saw a lot more than they wanted to see...) then they got the publicity leading to journalists and politicians joining, just in time to witness and report on the outraged activist complaints, rewarding the loudest complainers with attention.
