many of us are not "default okay" and it's strange, feel like we *outta be*- having a content and functional mind without having to put a bunch of effort to get & keep it that way ... and i think guilt over not being default okay adds to the sense of being intrinsically flawed
but recently i've been coming around to the idea that modern urban life sets us up to be uncomfy by default, from childhood
like, we have contracted awareness... but also we spend most of our lives with literal walls around us blocking sensory experience from beyond the space of a room
we are ungrounded- we walk around in hard soled shoes on harder flat surfaces that don't engage the senses of the feet- walking is dull ache, trudge... and yet we're surprised that our awareness is in our head not our feet?
we dissociate and don't engage with our surroundings- but we're surrounded by unpleasant experiences that we shouldn't avoid - stinking garbage, blaring horns, grating saws, bright chaotic lights in the night...
and we're default anxious, tense, on edge ... but we're not receiving the signals of safety that nature sends us continually when we're outside
