use the vocabulary of the person you're talking to as much as you can- imperfect synonyms can derail into a discussion of definitions and frames use straightforward grammar constructs and avoid double negatives, use nouns & names more often than you think you should- too many pronouns can get confusing provide a bit of context or your motivation for asking if the question is unconventional or admits multiple interpretations- help the answerer know what you're looking for
not all questions are about seeking information for yourself- be aware of the range of motivations and adjust accordingly.... you might be questioning to get commitment to a decision, to gently correct an error, seeking information on behalf of other listeners, to lob the conversational ball back to the speaker / guide their chatter towards a topic of interest, to show support or to show dissent, perhaps a humorous question meant to get a laugh not an answer, perhaps a question to demonstrate your knowledge or sympathy...
