Ordermaster

Ordermaster is the second installment in L. E. Modesitt Jr.'s Amos Walker series, a fantasy mystery that blends the procedural rigor of detective fiction with a high-stakes magical system. The narrative follows Amos Walker, a private investigator in the city of New Carthage, who is hired to solve a case involving the disappearance of a powerful mage. As Walker delves into the intricate politics of the Order of Mages, he uncovers a conspiracy that threatens the delicate balance between order and chaos in the world. The book explores the ethical responsibilities of those who wield significant power, contrasting the rigid structures of magical governance with the unpredictable nature of human ambition.
