  1. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · repostRT @olivertraldi: The dating discourse boils down to a simple fact: a person often wants social norms that somehow give them the most freed…
  2. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl @0xfbifemboy Lol remember alien dreadnought factory? Thankfully Elon realized the folly (probably by spending all his time in the factory seeing issues firsthand)
  3. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@AlexGodofsky @RiverTamYDN @Sharon_Kuruvila Lol, I was totally gonna ask who ate your tulips, but thought it might be insensitive...
  4. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl I think these are complements- first principles gets beyond local maxima to aim at a higher peak, fail-fast testing uncovers unforseen complications with the new approach.
  5. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@Empyre190881 @Noahpinion Or saving them from sharks? Or when the dolphin led the beached whales back out to sea after human rescuers had failed.
  6. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@ionlazer @tszzl Yeah, I really think history will look back on talk therapy similar to how we look at blood-letting... Encouraging rumination is not helpful.
  7. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@ionlazer @tszzl Probably wise... The IQ / gifted thing is so toxic. I finally found a psychiatrist who I like- focuses on how I'm doing and what if anything I want to try to change, doesn't discuss the DSM- and a half-dose of Wellbutrin does make my life overall better.
  8. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@ionlazer @tszzl Yep, I have a bunch of "very mild" diagnoses because my life is insufficiently destroyed by my "symptoms". Neurodiversity would be a better frame- I'm weird in the same bipolar way as others, but it isn't a bad thing.
  9. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@abettertake Lol, I have a fabric collection and a yarn collection. Slowly being converted into quilt and handknit collections.
  10. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl Neuralink vs SpaceX?
  11. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@Noahpinion It's nice, but doesn't separate us from other animals- for example, this video of an Orangutan saving a baby bird https://youtu.be/rD6ziL-1bBY
  12. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · repostRT @richcampbell: I'm fine, everything is fine, no really... https://t.co/Wgz1zkZQ6N
  13. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@schock @ngoede "criminals don't use crypto / NTFs for money laundering because the ledger is public"
  14. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · repostRT @ObserverSuns: if you want to make something less brittle, you can try to make it strong, but you can also try to make it squishy
  15. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · postWaiting for hours in a crowded room to get tested for legionella per health dept request for outbreak investigation. Feel like the inconvenience, cost, and potential covid exposure is a lot to ask for a low value data point...
  16. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@AlexGodofsky @RiverTamYDN @sgodofsk @DistractedAnna Or date no one 🙂
  17. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@RiverTamYDN @DistractedAnna @sgodofsk Seriously! Also Seattle -> DC
  18. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@AlecStapp @IFP Congrats on the launch! Glad to see you working on the most important issues, best of luck "pulling the rope sideways"!
  19. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · repostRT @BrentToderian: Car-dependent suburban sprawl is the most publicly expensive and publicly subsidized form of human habitation per capita…
  20. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@abettertake @robertwiblin And with shared ownership there's tension between seller wanting max price from any buyer vs remaining residents wanting to choose a compatible new owner... See this in the condo vs co-op distinction, seems like mostly condos have won out.
  21. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@abettertake @robertwiblin Yeah, I think transience is a big obstacle- if you've ever lived in a group house and had to interview prospective roommates and organize the move out / move in logistics... With kids in the mix it would be way more fraught
  22. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · quoteI find DAOs interesting because they're wrestling with the problem of governance and whether/how tech can reduce the overhead of organizing people for collective ownership. https://x.com/mimi10v3/status/1484572780934877189
  23. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@AmandaLothian7 @robertwiblin Yeah, I've been on my condo board, it was tiresome just dealing with the basics of budgets and contractors and resident complaints for 60 households; my community garden is also less than it could be for lack of volunteer leadership. Wrangling people is actually really tough!
  24. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@robertwiblin The social and organizational skills required to be a good leader are less common than you'd think, and yet there's not usually compensation for serving on condo boards etc
  25. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@robertwiblin Tbh the hard part is governance- creating consensus around rules, organizing shared responsibilities, enforcing penalties on slackers and disruptive people. With a small group it's informal but emotionally intense when things go wrong, with a larger group the comms overhead hurts
  26. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@robertwiblin I don't think it needs to be literally within the same house (though if that works great), but cohousing communities work well for people committed to them... Reform suburban zoning laws so it's easier build smaller denser housing clusters with shared facilities and open space.
  27. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@SuperIronBob @default_friend Yes, back when towns were smaller and transportation slower, the community gossiped and remembered your reputation very well.
  28. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@MargRev We need a better tax system, period.
  29. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@JWPascale @alongthepike Good riddance!

  31. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel Yeah, idk how Sree Kotay has so few followers
  32. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@MasterTimBlais Yep, I do whenever I stop taking my meds... It's called an "episode" 🤣
  33. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@kyzcralotSxaM Lol, you ever been on a date with a man?
  34. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@vgr Lol total spoiler! Guessed it first try
  35. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl Baby Y confirmed
  36. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · repostRT @TMFMaldivesBlue: Ten years ago today, I survived a suicide attempt. It's kind of a big deal, but not just for me. I think it matters…
  37. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl @varunramg I'd assume it is translated?
  38. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@varunramg @PiquantParvenu That teh menz would be so uninterested they'd scroll on by without answering?

  40. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates @tszzl
  41. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates 😄 but that would be -1 step further from hairline discourse...
  42. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · quote@deepfates Lol, that would mean unfollowing you! And missing out on gems like this https://x.com/MJBrendanawicz/status/1484108423411081217?t=dh_QAJJJ9YZNXYcVRCwF7A&s=19
  43. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates @chairsign Post daily closeup and poll for whether hairline has moved since yesterday? 😏
  44. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates @OneEyedAlpaca @Alphiloscorp @__justplaying Lol, if it was me I'd probably go ask if I can help them find anything, both to be helpful and as a nudge to not linger.
  45. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates @OneEyedAlpaca @Alphiloscorp @__justplaying Ahh, I was imagining the howling of an ear infection or something...
  46. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates @OneEyedAlpaca @Alphiloscorp @__justplaying I love books too, but not usually an *urgent* need (or, if I needed something specific I'd be asking for help) https://t.co/Wjym3pMa5t
  47. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@OneEyedAlpaca @Alphiloscorp @deepfates @__justplaying Feel like browsing a bookstore for 30 mins is not usually an urgent errand, but maybe that's just me...
  48. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@Alphiloscorp @OneEyedAlpaca @deepfates @__justplaying Perhaps it is unskilled / exhausted parent not attending to the baby's needs somehow? Feel like living in a tribe w grandparents you'd have more help to quiet a fussy baby.
  49. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@Edgar_DOP @TacoBamba I mean going in physically vs WFH; since the office is still mostly empty it's close to neutral whether to work from there or home, except different lunch options.
  50. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@mattyglesias I'd like to resurrect the art of Rhetoric, with appropriate adaptations for social media.
  51. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@BenjaminSmith13 @Ravie777 @mattyglesias How is debugging not science though? You notice anomalous behavior not predicted by your current mental model of the system, hypothesize about what might be going on, run diagnostics, and update your understanding as you uncover why the system is not behaving as designed
  52. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@BenjaminSmith13 @Ravie777 @mattyglesias I think "teaching science" is really about how to identify unknowns, generate testable hypotheses, design valid experiments, and collect and analyze data. Which seems like useful problem solving skills for anyone 🤷‍♀️
  53. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · repostRT @ctrlcreep: The artificial wombs have a few default wallpapers: a forest, a cloudscape, a pastel abstraction. Strangely, around the age…
  54. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates Every week? My grandparents attended holy daily mass 😫
  55. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates My grandparents' Catholic church had a soundproofed windowed room with speakers from the pulpit; parents were expected to remove disruptive kids and view the service from the "baby room"... The walk of shame was pretty good motivation for us pre-K grandkids to behave
  56. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@vgr Vibes, definitely. Fits in w "feelings > facts", challenge of remote comms, "microaggressions", UBI + only do "meaningful" work....
  57. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@hyperboreanterf Sure but for women who can't / would be high risk ... Surrogacy is a much bigger barrier to parental bonding since the surrogate has her own life
  58. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@hyperboreanterf Idk why everyone keeps assuming the tanks would be in a lab rather than installed in the nursery at home where the parents can touch and read and play music for the fetus
  59. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@robinhanson Technically you'd do better to clear out all the furniture and have your guests stand... Ofc the usual solution is to spill into outdoor spaces- you can fit quite a large party in a backyard! (Though strongly advise against if you're on a septic system)
  60. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@redoatz I always liked Ms Peacock in Clue 🤣 https://t.co/FD4zdJOWcB
  61. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@redoatz Lol, good idea... Or let me go further back so I can pick Birch or Peacock, or maybe Landis for their long history in Shenandoah ♥️ (Take me home 🎶 County roads...)
  62. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · repostRT @Probably_Brian: so bulb style christmas tree decorations are a way simulate natural abundance in cold climates right https://t.co/l0nxo…

  65. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@TheCaptain_Nemo Lol can I be a contestant? We'd disagree about everything, but like "found my soulmate sparring partner" vibes
  66. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@Noahpinion Lol exactly
  67. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@Noahpinion Spend some of their US Treasury reserves? 🙃
  68. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@_holyweather It's interesting, like this nonverbal psychology of posture and touch, finding inner quiet and gentle confidence to be the leader your horse needs so they can feel confident and playful
  69. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@_holyweather Well I grew up with horses, doing natural horsemanship where you can ride without a bridal or saddle just communicating by touch ... And had a habit of grooming and massaging skittish horses till they'd relax and start drooling... So, at least in my mind it carries over... 😅
  70. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@_holyweather Massaging and touching my partner to connect and relax... When I have a partner anyway 😿
  71. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel @tszzl 2nd gen are the best 💕
  72. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@joodaloop @tszzl @MegaBasedChad Lol, don't I wish 😏
  73. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@PrinceVogel 😏 ok I may have said that last bit for comedic effect
  74. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@PrinceVogel Because imo the parables and quotable aphorisms of his ministry scream wordcel... The Naval of his day
  75. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@PrinceVogel Is there anything in the record that says he was a particularly *good* carpenter? Vs just a normie oldest son fulfilling parental career expectations?
  76. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl @MegaBasedChad Also wordcels 😜
  77. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@OneEyedAlpaca @selentelechia Huh, I'm a fan, having seen them mostly on toddlers waiting for the train, gives peace of mind even as an onlooker that they can't dart away and fall on the tracks
  78. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · repostRT @FastCompany: Can AppHarvest bring new jobs in high-tech farming to coal country? http://f-st.co/6rw6OEc
  79. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@MegaBasedChad terrifying Type of Guy fr
  80. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · quoteSo true! Rebellion by acts of kindness https://x.com/PrinceVogel/status/1484068939596505089
  81. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@ask_ourself @visakanv Yeah I take Vitamin D and a half-dose of Wellbutrin and that seems to stop the teary sensitivity to suffering in the world... But sometimes I stop because it feels wrong to block out sadness, or because I have an issue with prescription refills, and then I feel the same again
  82. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@ask_ourself @visakanv No I'll have to read it. My depression isn't personal, it's always like seeing a dead fox on the road and crying about the tragedy of innocent animal being hit by a car, or seeing an old person struggling to open a car door and sobbing about the faded dignity of age.
  83. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@ask_ourself @visakanv There are times when I have nothing positive to say about the world or myself, just see tragedy in every vignette and nothing brings any pleasure.. But the only solution that has worked has been to adjust / resume antidepressant, talking has only made me feel worse
  84. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel @tszzl The true ingroup civil war- roon has defected from the big account conspiracy
  85. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@HephaistosF @visakanv Luckily now have a psychiatrist who gives me a small amount of Xanax which I take if I'm not sleeping two nights in a row and that cuts off any impending episode
  86. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@HephaistosF @visakanv And it is absurd that the healthcare system pushes me into useless convos with therapists until things get bad enough to end up in the ER and get a shot of Ativan and sleep and then I'm fine but stuck in inpatient till I convince drs I'm fine
  87. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@HephaistosF @visakanv Yeah, I go because I have bipolar and if I'm having an up or down, people will tell me to "get help" and I'll go because I don't want to look resistant, but I've never understood what I'm supposed to get out of it. Only thing that helps mania is sleep meds 🤷‍♀️
  88. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@visakanv (and I've been to 8 different ones over the years, for months at a time before giving up in disgust)
  89. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@visakanv I've yet to have anything other than net-negative experience with therapy... Idk if there's something wrong with me beyond fixing, or if I somehow have the worst luck of only finding terrible therapist, or what...
  90. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@vgr Yeah, novel was ok but not brilliant, had me hesitant about the show, good to hear it is different / better.
  91. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@visakanv Hm, risky move. A therapist saying that to me at the wrong time could've easily tipped the balance towards suicide.
  92. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates While dreaming about your best Twitter frenemy
  93. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel And I think that was closed due to covid
  94. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel A branch of what? The IRS? Last I knew they were down to only one physical office where you could pay cash
  95. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel Actually this is good for me- I receive money to pay the taxes only a week or two before they're due, and the bank always puts unreasonable holds on the deposit... EFT has to be available on the due date, but mailed paper checks won't be opened & deposited for a month or more
  96. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel Alternative is paper forms which are still the only option for some circumstances- I've printed and mailed more things to the IRS over the years...
  97. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel Not today! Auth to their website only requires a password and two-factor phone code to schedule quarterly EFT payments.
  98. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@growing_daniel "live selfies via webcam or mobile"?!? I think not
  99. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · quoteDeeply upsetting, like everything related to taxes https://x.com/briankrebs/status/1483852269510610946
  100. Jan 20, 2022Twitter · reply@briankrebs 🤣 ok they're getting my estimated payments as paper checks... I'll enjoy the extra interest from the month-long gap between postmark and when IRS gets around to opening the mail
