  1. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl @brawnyman713 It's still stupidly expensive to raise children in Chinese cities, esp without hukou; women work and have less protection from discrimination for pregnancy; young ppl are already burdened w caring for elderly relatives; 1 child is still likely pref even without the law
  2. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · reply@fronseneca @tszzl Yeah def... Though I'd say more West Africa than East... Much as I love my local Ethiopian community I think they'd go w China.
  3. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · reply@Whiskeypunk1 Ahh, fell asleep watching that. I'm more of a book nerd- would A Wrinkle in Time be comparable?
  4. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · repostRT @s8mb: The parenthood pay gap. No wonder birth rates are collapsing. https://t.co/RBrV2bDc99
  5. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl Anyone who wants a head start on future culture should spend more time in Nigeria... Imo much closer to US culture than to Chinese culture
  6. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · reply@Whiskeypunk1 What do you consider to be peak "nerd culture"?
  7. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · reply@Pathless110 Yep, my old cabin has a spring box that's ~300 ft down the hillside... A family lived there full-time into the 1900s, hauling all the water they used up that slope.
  8. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · reply@mappy_sam @hyperboreanterf So true! On a first date guys should skip the cologne, let us assess your actual scent.
  9. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · reply@HankWaggy More likely hit the jail diversion program and sent to counseling?

  11. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · reply@ESYudkowsky @robertwiblin Your visible intellect gives us an alt explanation for your predictions of of the future... If you played dumb we'd be more likely to credit time travel. Actually, person I'd most believe is from the future is @bryan_caplan - look at his record of winning bets.
  12. Jan 23, 2022Twitter · reply@robertwiblin Hm maybe introduce magnetic compass, sextant, and mapmaking techniques, and then tell them about the Americas including details & sketches of useful plant species they'll find?

  19. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates I believe his exact words were "when you're a Twitter microceleb they let you do it"
  20. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@Aella_Girl Eh, I don't agree... I prefer living in a community with social norms beyond that minimum- no cutting in line, no littering, stand on the right / walk on the left, give bus seats to the elderly, etc- and I support people calmly calling out violators.
  21. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates Also said something about VIP catering with chocolate dipped fruit and premium liquor...? https://t.co/HXbiHi54pY
  22. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates And he promised to spruce up the cabin for a more decadent vibe... https://t.co/ZHI6L1b2O4
  23. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates 😲😲😲🔥🔥🔥 There's a whole GC of us......
  24. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@PiquantParvenu Awww, same 💕
  25. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates Lol, I thought the cabin was for roon + his top female cult followers...
  26. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates I just wanna know how roon is getting a one-day pass
  27. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@PiquantParvenu Seriously... I don't look as geeky as I am- used to ask guys to guess my major and they'd always say "communications"😝 but at the end of the day if you're comfortable in your own skin people will figure it out
  28. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@PiquantParvenu Yeah do! You sound amazing!
  29. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@fakegeekguy @tszzl Yeah, it had slightly less "prison camp" vibes than other high schools... And 8th period activities were fun
  30. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@fakegeekguy @tszzl Oh- my cousin also attended- funniest thing, he decided to join the freshman football team and they had to special order a helmet for his oversized head 🤣
  31. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@fakegeekguy @tszzl Lol, I was like star of the competitive coding team (and only girl sigh) for the year before I quit to go ride horses all day
  32. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@fakegeekguy @tszzl I was there before it became quite so asian-dominated, the good things were having all 9th graders take a survey of engineering class, having a bunch of post-AP CS classes available, and that everyone was geeky so I felt like I fit in a little more
  33. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@MeiselZachary @tszzl It's a magnet school for a region with highest % w college degree, high median income, and it's 70% Asian many of whom do tutoring for yrs to get in... So, it's the demographics that create the scores that create the rating
  34. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl (and I swear this was a factor in Youngkin winning the gov race)
  35. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl Lol they went from #1 last yr to #5 this yr after changing admissions to reduce % asian https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/virginia/districts/fairfax-county-public-schools/thomas-jefferson-high-school-for-science-and-technology-20461
  36. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@tszzl Yeah, I went to a public high school often ranked #1 or #2 in the nation, but quit after a year because it kinda sucked (probably less than others, but still)
  37. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@RokoMijic Because the core belief is that there is God in everyone, the "inner light" / "quiet voice" of conscience, and that God can speak to you by inspiring your peers to challenge you
  38. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@RokoMijic I think what separates them from the Woke is they don't get offended by people having different ideas or questioning things
  39. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@RokoMijic They're the most sincere introspective ppl... You can have a convo with them about ethics and they actually have good answers because they actually think things through for themselves not pick up doctrine from somewhere else
  40. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@RokoMijic Hah! I really respect (unprogrammed) Quakers because meetings function without any leader / priest / authority, everyone has equal opportunity to speak their mind but there are norms of peaceful disagreement and listening.
  41. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@RokoMijic *area
  42. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@RokoMijic Aww, there are several meetings in my art, I attend sometimes and feel like if I had to pick a religion I'd be a Quaker
  43. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates And I think it's fine for big gigs to filter out people who are too niche- they should pick someone inoffensive to most ppl to host the Oscars
  44. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates I think you *can* make fun of anything, but some topics will turn off a % of your audience, need to calibrate and be legible so your audience can self-select. Like, I don't enjoy Howard Stern's sense of humor so I don't listen to him and that's fine.
  45. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@RokoMijic Lol, what's your metaphor for Quaker?
  46. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · repostRT @TaylorPopielarz: DC showing off tonight 😍 https://t.co/6AvOm9YYOY
  47. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@redoatz Yeah lol true about social benefits... Esp as a vegan I'm difficult about food, so being willing to have a drink makes me seem less uptight
  48. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · repostRT @money_illusion: @varunramg our brains are still wired for religious experiences, symbolism, and superstition. the clothes and settings…
  49. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@redoatz Hm I suppose so.. I mean, I do like a good wine or scotch, but yeah other considerations easily outweigh the enjoyment. Have read a bit about the cancer risk, you're probably better off with zero alcohol 🙂
  50. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@redoatz Actually live in an inner suburb townhouse built before most ppl had cars so the sidewalks go to the door but the road doesn't and parking is limited first-come-basis... Sometimes walk the .25 mi to the grocery store, which adds to the lazy factor
  51. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@redoatz And yeah I pretty much only drink when I go out to a nice restaurant for dinner... Silly reason I don't drink at home- because alcohol, like any liquid, is heavy and my parking spot is quite a walk from my front door - pure laziness 🤣
  52. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@redoatz Lol, if anything my sleep is worse the past few weeks... But that's probably more to do with the cold and not getting enough sunlight to stay on a schedule
  53. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · replyOk, tbh, it's because with restaurant prices going up I've been spending an awful lot on dining out, and spent a *lot* on Christmas gifts this year.... Expensive drinks felt like the easiest thing to cut back. Suppose I'll continue, but disappointed I don't feel healthier somehow
  54. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · postHaven't had any alcohol since December, not a resolution just circumstance... Have to say I don't feel any different / better for the change 🤔 (prev consumption was one or two drinks with dinner, not binge drinking)
  55. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates Spa date at home sounds lovely!
  56. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@vgr Yeah, except that exercise can be fun if you don't take it too seriously- joyful exercise shifts the rest of your life into easier mode
  57. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@kendrictonn @eggprophet Take the poor kid out to play at the park or get ice cream or something

  66. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@mattyglesias 🤣 parody is protected?
  67. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@igvolow @paulg Tbh most devs will just leave the COBOL off the resume (until they need money and realize how lucrative those damn jobs are)... So the important thing is to let them find trivial uses for new interesting tech to justify adding it to the resume
  68. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@AlloyRedd @paulg @garrytan Interns 😏
  69. Jan 22, 2022Twitter · reply@firasd @paulg Google really really wants to be social... If only it didn't preferentially hire the sort of people who get banned from online communities

  89. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@space_colonist Not unless you have kids, or maybe elderly parents relying on your income.
  90. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@MeiselZachary So, I support GMO labeling laws and would personally buy non-GMO because I can afford to pay more for my preference
  91. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@MeiselZachary Ofc other side is that chemicals maximize yield- food would be more expensive if produced without them (unclear *how much* more expensive tho)... Otoh, the chemicals are expensive, which makes it harder to turn a profit esp. in bad years... 🤷‍♀️
  92. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@MeiselZachary Chemicals applied to a field wash down the watershed and accumulate in animals that eat plants. History shows we've repeatedly had to ban specific chemicals after discovering negative side effects on environment / human health.. So I prefer practices that don't require chemicals
  93. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@MeiselZachary Permaculture says that indiscriminate use of pesticides kills both plant-eating pests and the predators which in nature keep them in check... But the pests rebound faster than the predators so you have a bigger problem the next year, requiring increasing chemical applications
  94. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@deepfates 🤣 thank fates you don't follow me and see all the silly things I like
  95. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@PiquantParvenu Yeah definitely- also can be used with a partner... I recommend!
  96. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@MeiselZachary Another complaint is more about one way GMO is used in practice- which is to make the crop immune to a pesticide so the field can be sprayed to kill everything except the crop...
  97. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@MeiselZachary (for ex, if the GMO gene makes the crop susceptible to a blight that gets introduced and spreads widely... you'd want to be able to shift to a variety without that gene, maybe use it to make a new GMO with a different gene)
  98. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@MeiselZachary The tough / frustrating part of GMOs is that they're hard to contain- GMO pollen can be blown quite a distance to pollinate neighboring fields... I'm not against GMO as tech, but I do worry that we maintain a diverse stock of heirloom varieties in case there's an issue w the GMO
  99. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@PiquantParvenu You don't like clit vibrators?
  100. Jan 21, 2022Twitter · reply@PiquantParvenu Lol, and *all* of the rest prefer clit action. Men take note 🙏
