  1. Jan 16, 2022Twitter · reply@NickWTOP @ArlStephen @WTOP This is a dumb fight to pick- sure rescind the state-level mask rule, but let each school district have their own policies according to local sentiment- and in Arlington, local sentiment is pro-mask.

  4. Jan 16, 2022Twitter · reply@RokoMijic @NoahCarl90 @sama Not clear there is a "win even more" option- we have a well-funded police force that catches most perps, no single ethnic group is dominant, and you won't automatically get support from your own group because people are happy with peaceful prosperity and education for their kids.
  5. Jan 16, 2022Twitter · reply@RokoMijic @NoahCarl90 @sama That hasn't happened here in the 50 years it has been a welcoming home for immigrants and living here it is very hard to imagine how it could. People all want a good quality of life and everyone can see it is win-win to do something productive, not to pick fights with neighbors.

  43. Jan 14, 2022Twitter · reply@SRtwofourfour It would be perfect though- tuck a children's section in the front left, keep the long bar and tiny stage for readings, shelves framing comfy couches in the middle, fill the loft with bookshelves and little seating nooks... Sell vegan desserts and coffee and fancy cocktails...
  44. Jan 14, 2022Twitter · reply@SRtwofourfour Sigh- I really wish someone would open a bookstore/cafe in that space... But I've heard that the landlord is a nightmare 🤷‍♀️

  47. Jan 14, 2022Twitter · reply@PradyuPrasad @tszzl Which are good innovations, but they intentionally wait to do them to maximize patent protection and market share... Also drug reps spend ridiculous sums to sweeten up doctors to prescribe the new brand-name version rather than the workable generic
  48. Jan 14, 2022Twitter · reply@PradyuPrasad @tszzl They play all sorts of games to extend patent protection and gain market share vs generics... 52. Jan 14, 2022Twitter · reply@chribreuer @mattyglesias (to clarify- I'm definitely in favor of more immigration and upzoning for urban density... But I also want to preserve biodiversity and wild places for future generations)
  53. Jan 14, 2022Twitter · reply@DogIsABot @fahrradamzug @chribreuer @mattyglesias Yep- the part that's in a rain shadow from the Rockies and west from there. Usable for low density rangeland, western cities currently rely on snowmelt which is decreasing with climate change and drilling into aquifers which don't recharge as fast as they're being pumped dry.
  54. Jan 14, 2022Twitter · reply@fahrradamzug @chribreuer @mattyglesias Yeah, but far more amenable to agriculture than much of Alaska... Growing season is short, you'd need nuclear powered greenhouses or something

  59. Jan 14, 2022Twitter · reply@chribreuer @mattyglesias Yeah, density calcs really needs to be scaled according to inches of rain... Water is a limiting factor for the western half of the continent. Alaskan glaciers also aren't really comparable to fertile German acreage.

  63. Jan 14, 2022Twitter · reply@QiaochuYuan Omg this thread brings up so much resentment in me... I grew up in "sincere mode"- didn't realize others were playing a signaling game, made myself so miserable that I landed in the psych ward, had to reject a lot of idealistic beliefs to get to a place where I didn't hate myself

  72. Jan 14, 2022Twitter · reply@JoCoMicallef @Noahpinion Hm this I find hard to believe... Doesn't everyone want a city rowhouse steps from restaurants and entertainment as well as a mountainside cabin surrounded by nature as well as a beachfront Caribbean villa for winter?

  77. Jan 13, 2022Twitter · reply@vgr We'll all be wishing we'd purchased the NFTs 🤭
  78. Jan 13, 2022Twitter · reply@RokoMijic 🤷‍♀️ there's so much money floating around, you don't need to be very productive to continue paying salaries and going through the motions. People should make the best of the ennui by maxing the rest of their lives and working on side projects till real work resumes.
  79. Jan 13, 2022Twitter · reply@Noahpinion Hm, personally don't know any but sounds plausible 🙂 in my case, family wealth is about to become liquid as the land where we ran our business is being purchased by the county to build "affordable" housing ... intend to plow my share into building a mountainside weekend home
