  2. Sep 11, 2021Twitter · reply@SawyerMerritt Like, I'd be fine with most of the benefit of the extra union tax rebate going to Tesla employees via higher prices & wages, as long as not a penny goes to UAW union bosses and political kickbacks.
  3. Sep 11, 2021Twitter · reply@SawyerMerritt 🙄 is it possible for Tesla employees to unionize independent of UAW etc, and collectively bargain for employment terms similar to current conditions, if they're actually happy with them?
  4. Sep 11, 2021Twitter · reply@Duderichy Yeah, pregnant horse urine.... You could adopt a Premarin foal, it was always strange to think that your precious pet only existed because some woman wanted a cure for hot flashes.

  18. Sep 10, 2021Twitter · reply@IanDWyatt @wineMdineEM69em @KishinManglani @typesfast Yeah, my personal anecdote is that in Mar '20 I scoped a berth optimizing project to replace spreadsheets with a visual planner, but it got put on hold in early covid uncertainty and "the existing system works well enough" ... LOL
  19. Sep 10, 2021Twitter · reply@wineMdineEM69em @KishinManglani @typesfast I mean like adding more equipment in the terminal is harder if it's all on backorder pending chip availability, but also it's harder for alternative suppliers to scale up onshore output if they can't get needed machinery, maybe? Idk, I just work on the software.

  22. Sep 10, 2021Twitter · reply@rkfatheree @mattyglesias 🙄 yeah, a shooting the other side of the Anacostia would be business as usual... The pandemic became real to me when my dad had a secondhand covid contact through Christ Church in Georgetown and it suddenly felt very local and personal
  23. Sep 10, 2021Twitter · reply@KishinManglani @typesfast My logistics guru says it's the predictable knock-on effect of covid disruptions starting in March 2020 and that it'll take several years for the waves of disruption to fade. 28. Sep 10, 2021Twitter · reply@MalwareTechBlog 🙄 antivaxx sentiment among AF pilots is real, per personal experience... But the ones I know aren't going to resist now that it is mandatory (in fact they went and got a J&J shot on their own initiative because they're suspicious of the military injecting them with mRNA, sigh)
  29. Sep 10, 2021Twitter · reply@mahynes72 @ESYudkowsky Imo state, local, and community legislative positions should be rungs on the ladder; this is where we severely under-compensate such that legislation isn't a viable career path without a highly-paid spouse or related (conflicted) consulting practice
  30. Sep 10, 2021Twitter · reply@mahynes72 @ESYudkowsky (ok, actually serious, I think the uncertain outcome and lack of salary during the campaign is a bigger problem for recruitment than the salary once elected)
  31. Sep 10, 2021Twitter · reply@mahynes72 @ESYudkowsky But I wouldn't be so quick to rule out brain scans as part of registering as a candidate... Srsly as a voter I'd have been fascinated to know what a neurologist would have made of Trump & Biden scans.
  32. Sep 10, 2021Twitter · reply@ESYudkowsky Do we really pay them for "trying" or just for winning elections? Does your work on AI alignment suggest any avenues for improving alignment of congressppl w constituent interests?

  41. Sep 9, 2021Twitter · reply@amtrpa @micsolana (so while I wish the Biden admin and others would dial it waaay back in this case, I think it is more important not to set precedent limiting govt action in case of future pandemics)
  42. Sep 9, 2021Twitter · reply@amtrpa @micsolana Yeah, I mean the current situation isn't so severe, but if it was ebola running rampant I'd be in favor of bullying and coercion to stop the spread of a virus with 50% mortality.

  58. Sep 9, 2021Twitter · reply@mattparlmer I was worrying about my dad, who we later found out was stuck in the snarled traffic on the road next to the Pentagon... He has an odd habit of being near the scene of terrorist incidents, but so far so good 🤷
  59. Sep 9, 2021Twitter · reply@MasterTimBlais You went through a phase of contributing earnest product / service reviews; you now regret the expenditure of time and mental energy; you still instinctively skim reviews and then struggle to properly account for seller & platform machinations.

  96. Sep 1, 2021Twitter · reply@TechRonic9876 @SmotWicket @David_Charts @mattyglesias The eviction moratorium adds to the problem- landlords have to pay all the expenses even if they're getting no rent income from the tenant, so a conservative responsible landlord would keep 2 yrs of expenses sitting in cash
  97. Sep 1, 2021Twitter · reply@TechRonic9876 @SmotWicket @David_Charts @mattyglesias The frustrating thing is that in my experience "hoarding" in liquid accounts is due to uncertainty about future taxes- if you don't know how much you'll owe and there are penalties if you don't pay immediately, then the system almost requires you to sit on a pile of cash
  98. Sep 1, 2021Twitter · reply@PareeDave @wmui1 @David_Charts @mattyglesias The real scam is the like-kind exchange rule- we're planning to buy other nearby land with same zoning with the proceeds of the sale, so it doesn't count as capital gains in this tax yr.
  99. Sep 1, 2021Twitter · reply@PareeDave @wmui1 @David_Charts @mattyglesias Yeah valuation of raw land is a tough problem- it's an irregular scrap of land under an airport flight path but happens to sit between backbone fiber on both sides... County assessment is relative to other nearby scraps of land because they can't account for every unique factor.
  100. Sep 1, 2021Twitter · reply@PareeDave @wmui1 @David_Charts @mattyglesias Yes those are the values for a scrap of abandoned farmland being developed as a datacenter; the ownership is a % of a % and is not the only asset, but provides an agreed upon sale price to illustrate the valuation problem.
