  1. Jun 15, 2021Twitter · reply@kjsippel @onedollarjuana @Robotbeat @jbhammer @mattyglesias The only question is whether the solution will include human annihilation
  2. Jun 15, 2021Twitter · reply@AndyfromTucson @mattyglesias The common assumption is that the AI grows smarter at an exponential pace and figures out how to ensure its own survival before we manage to convene a summit to work out a solution. If our interests aren't aligned we may all be snuffed before we figure it out?
  3. Jun 15, 2021Twitter · reply@ShaversLevi @InmanRoshi @kewms @mjbreuer @mattyglesias Or even entire planets 😏
  4. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@ampyourgrowth @paulg I used to think this way ... Then I individually asked each of my coworkers what they'd do if they received enough UBI to cover the essentials ... Every person had an immediate answer, *none* of it was tech. Concluded that UBI-world would not have functional internet.

  7. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@ShaversLevi @InmanRoshi @kewms @mjbreuer @mattyglesias Exactly, the problem with AI driving is unpredictable human behavior... Remove humans and the safety metrics improve 😏
  8. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@bouillabae @mattyglesias Both are symptoms of excessive imagination... Ask me how I know 😏

  10. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky I didn't think of it in these terms, but I did come to the conclusion years ago that dating is a net negative experience so I choose not to partake.
  11. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@mattyglesias It's tough to plan to control something we don't yet have a plan to create... The deeper issue is that our failure to act on climate change suggest we would be unable to achieve global consensus on regulation if/when it becomes necessary.
  12. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · quoteTask this sprint- review and triage "TODO" comments 😬 https://x.com/nixcraft/status/1404558933465784320
  13. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@BrunoNiko858 @muhles @mcuban Which liquidity protocol or yield aggregator? Trying to Google but want to be looking at the right thing...
  14. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@BrunoNiko858 @muhles @mcuban Ok so I keep a large bank account linked to the IRS to debit tax payments on the various due dates... how would I use crypto to improve this situation?
  15. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@BrunoNiko858 @muhles @mcuban I send money via Zelle, seems to work well enough... I make large payments via EFT, mostly just tax payments... I don't use leverage, beyond my risk tolerance...
  16. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@BrunoNiko858 @muhles @mcuban My only debt is mortgage held by my parents... I've never paid cc interest... Never raised money except... I do own stocks but mostly within Roth IRA to avoid cap gains tax... I earn negligible interest on savings but my main goal is accessibility not growth.
  17. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@BrunoNiko858 @muhles @mcuban I know Eth is a general purpose decentralized ledger, can do smart contracts etc, but I haven't yet figured out a personal use case?
  18. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@BrunoNiko858 @muhles @mcuban My frame of reference is living in the US as a law-abiding taxpayer without extreme wealth management or privacy needs. Cc policies + FDIC + cash provide enough assurance against having my money stolen; crypto is not yet a more reliable store of value than fiat.
  19. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · quoteTrue, but also we are in the twilight of the anthropocene as the AI Superintelligence is gathering momentum. https://x.com/engineers_feed/status/1404530231021555713
  20. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@muhles @BrunoNiko858 @mcuban I'd summarize as.. for my actual currency / banking needs the pros are still outweighed by the cons.. I think this is the case for everyone I know IRL.. I avoid investments where I don't know anyone IRL who would use the end product.
  21. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@elonmusk @leastImAlive @PPathole Could you give it to be used as a group home for adults with intellectual disabilities? Totally respect your desire to see resources put to their best use 💕❤️💕

  23. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@hubbersnaks @ka_dewaal @BrunoNiko858 @mcuban @thedailygwei Thank you for taking the time to reply to all my questions btw!!!!! 🙂
  24. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@hubbersnaks @ka_dewaal @BrunoNiko858 @mcuban I've been reading... But so far everything seems kinda incestuous / derivative, like it is all ultimately backed by people buying into a crypto ecosystem. To me this isn't yet a foregone conclusion, so it all makes me uneasy. I'll keep paying attn but I'm not ready to jump in.
  25. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@hubbersnaks @ka_dewaal @BrunoNiko858 @mcuban Ok, maybe this is just a difference in values, because no amount of theoretical money is worth spending time in jail, so realistically for me this isn't a benefit, tho it could be for others?
  26. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@hubbersnaks @ka_dewaal @BrunoNiko858 @mcuban Well other than 51% attacks or impl bug or crypto weakness or govt unplugging me from internet or govt getting between me and whoever will exchange my crypto for goods or oth currency, or getting court order to hand over my key...
  27. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@northernforks @hubbersnaks @BrunoNiko858 @mcuban Sorry if I'm not understanding... Are you saying that I should use crypto because it is more private? I know more than I can say about existing banks, but what justifies faith that these small new startups in various countries w various laws will do a better job re privacy?
  28. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@ka_dewaal @hubbersnaks @BrunoNiko858 @mcuban Sigh, tbh I'm talking ransomware and botnets, from personal experience not media coverage (which on the whole sucks). But what does it mean to "control my own money"?
  29. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@ka_dewaal @hubbersnaks @BrunoNiko858 @mcuban Ok, all my crypto exp to date has been business with ppl who do criminal things... I'm not sold that crypto today offers a *better* assurance than cash that when I want to redeem it for real world goods & services, it will hold its value and be accepted by my counterparty.
  30. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@hubbersnaks @BrunoNiko858 @mcuban How are the returns generated - what is the real economic value being created? I'm like terminally uncool so if it is just a passing fad I'd prefer to stay away so I'm not left holding the bag when the cool kids move on to something else.
  31. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@BrunoNiko858 @mcuban To me, right now, crypto looks unappealing given all the various scams and thefts from exchanges, risk of losing wallet key, plus the IRS focus- I need an identifiable upside to compensate for the additional audit risk.
  32. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@BrunoNiko858 @mcuban Yes, but specifically why should I want to buy into any of its current incarnations? (Other than buying ddos attacks, which, the less said the better..)
  33. Jun 14, 2021Twitter · reply@BrunoNiko858 @mcuban Ok sure, but how is it *better*? I was an early internet bank customer, it went bankrupt in mortgage crisis, was PITA when they froze accounts to move them to a solvent bank... But at least was earning better interest with less fees up to the meltdown...
  34. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@mcuban I still don't understand why non-criminals would want to swap highly volatile coins lacking deposit insurance rather than use boomer-bank channels like Zelle? DeFi makes sense to me, blockchain makes sense, but coins as currently constituted....???
  35. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@lexfridman Ego is a distraction, disappears in flow state💕
  36. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@GPallatuci @GreenValley_Guy @mattyglesias Lol, well, just putting a disclaimer on it- one random person's musings, not the consensus of experts.
  37. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@GPallatuci @GreenValley_Guy @mattyglesias AI and automation will be disruptive but otoh I think longevity research may start to pay off. So I'm thinking AI-capital will replace labor in journalism, medicine, education, law...
  38. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@GPallatuci @GreenValley_Guy @mattyglesias I also think we'll have a healthcare revolution because current trends are unsustainable, and a political reckoning as we wrestle with inequality vs incentives, debt concerns vs MMT, possibly some form of crypto disruption (not today's scams tho)
  39. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@GPallatuci @GreenValley_Guy @mattyglesias Money leaving the market = deflating asset prices, while more dollars chasing fewer goods & services = higher prices..? But I am 0% educated on this topic, just putting together what I've read.
  40. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@GPallatuci @GreenValley_Guy @mattyglesias I'm guessing the current supply chain issues will work themselves out, but I think there's truth to "pay higher wages if you want me to come back to work" and as boomers age but the succeeding gens aren't growing, they'll be selling off investments to pay for consumption...
  41. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@gabakker3 @Grace_Segers These are the best ones to have, if we're talking career success. Model successful habits, impart wealthy mannerisms, provide health and education, build network from birth by playdates with other rich kids... but prevent drug addicted idleness by not handing out cash.
  42. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@cassidoo Unpopular opinion: the best thing a young dev can do is to close the laptop, silence the phone, and have F2F whiteboard design conversations with their analysts and architects.
  43. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@ItCentrist @Grace_Segers Lol, I think it does- too much neurodiversity makes it hard to connect with most people, and a strong web of relationships is supposed to be the most important ingredient for happiness.
  44. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@ItCentrist @Grace_Segers High IQ, but not too high- 120 to 125 is optimal https://www.inc.com/jt-odonnell/science-says-120-is-the-optimal-iq-to-be-considere.html

  50. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@WholeMarsBlog Buy what you know (where you can beat the market), ETF the rest for diversification. Ignore the hype cycle.
  51. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@GreenValley_Guy @mattyglesias I know it has helped my portfolio, like insane returns... otoh I worry if inflation ramps up maybe it cancels out? Or the 30s might have subpar returns as boomers retire? So I keep saving anyway.
  52. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@waitbutwhy The crypto industry is the new cigarette industry 😞

  54. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@AbeLincoln1104 @Grace_Segers I have ASD, can you explain? When I've told people the story IRL they laugh...?
  55. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@hiimanshusinghx @ValaAfshar I think there's a bit more to it- when I listen for too long without speaking and then ask the obvious (to me) question I get yelled at for not speaking up sooner. It is tricky to learn to interrupt appropriately when you don't read social cues!
  56. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@melbataj Understand compound interest, expected value, and how to do their own taxes. Meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking several basic meals How to do laundry including ironing, how to mend a seam, sew a button, remove a stain
  57. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@AbeLincoln1104 @Grace_Segers It is accurate, but also meant to be amusing and give insight into how the rich stay rich by cutting out the middle man.
  58. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@DixitMani1 Oh and at a bare minimum, remove any dead code (unreferenced and/or commented out), fix any warnings, and run your team's formatter to clean up whitespace
  59. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@DixitMani1 Refactor so each function is working at a single level of abstraction, avoid excessive layers of nesting, choose parameters to minimize dependencies between functions and maximize reuse, follow established patterns, and name things sensibly.
  60. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@RationalEtienne @HEAVEN_1991 @elonmusk @Cointelegraph Well, there are a few things you can buy with it... Cybersecurity work leads to some interesting places....
  61. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@AbeLincoln1104 @Grace_Segers Oh, another tip- negotiate from a position of strength- I pre-qualified with several banks, negotiated for lower rates and fees, then showed the best deal to my parents and asked if they'd like to make a better offer. We managed to find a rate that made us both happy 🙂
  62. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@AbeLincoln1104 @Grace_Segers Oh and employed me at family businesses from early childhood through college, so I learned the value of money before I was old enough to get a credit card.
  63. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@AbeLincoln1104 @Grace_Segers Lol, in my case no... The money is in illiquid investments (land being sold for datacenter construction). But they paid my community college tuition for a CS degree and bought me a Honda Civic which lasted 12 years, so...

  71. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@jeremyjudkins 😂 I've gone through this sequence of thoughts- want a Tesla... but don't own a dedicated parking spot... Guess I'll have to buy land and build a house so I can get the whole package... Sadly I'm thinking the solar/batteries will have to come from a different provider 😢
  72. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@SteveCase Living near HQ2 and hearing so much negativity about housing prices, I'm surprised this is still seen as "opportunity" by politicians. Most activists around here seem to think actual jobs are degrading and everyone should just receive UBI instead. 🙄
  73. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@RationalEtienne 😢 humans are endlessly complicated and difficult. At least you know your own heart ❤️
  74. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@albrgr Also, some of the stimulus money should have instead been a gift card attached to the positive test result to ensure people could afford to stay home. The more recent stimulus should have been attached to vaccination so you'd get $2K in the mail right as you became immune.
  75. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@albrgr States should have stood up test teams to go out and collect samples where positive results were most likely to be found according to data- grocery store workers should've been receiving tests at their jobsite, contacts should've received home visits to collect samples, etc.
  76. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@albrgr Labs should have only been paid for test results returned quickly, with bonus for speed- everyone finding out 7 days later was not helpful for contact tracing and targeted shutdowns.
  77. Jun 13, 2021Twitter · reply@albrgr Testing should have been organized to minimize community spread, not tests on-demand for people with privilege while covid spread unseen among service workers.
