  8. Nov 9, 2021Twitter · reply@ashleyrgold Where's the usual cybersecurity loophole allowing algos to filter abuse? Can't run the internet backbone without automated detection and blocking of malicious traffic.
  9. Nov 9, 2021Twitter · reply@jyashouafar @ashleyrgold Look forward to more interstitial ads because each ad slot would need to consult with the user before applying opaque or transparent algos to decide what to serve... Also doesn't seem to apply to Apps, would increase trend to App-only platforms.

  13. Nov 9, 2021Twitter · reply@garyblack00 Surprised that it isn't worse perhaps? He wanted to illustrate the impact of the Wyden Tax- why forcing all wealthy founders / investors to liquidate 25% (or 45%?) of their gains isn't a good idea and will suck capital out of innovative companies like the next Tesla.

  15. Nov 9, 2021Twitter · reply@robertwiblin One privileged-but-not-exceptional person's career choice is unlikely to be a high impact decision because the next candidate is probably nearly as good... Nov 6, 2021Twitter · reply@RokoMijic @megisnobody @0x49fa98 @RoJi_Shuu @bakeronogatari Just for the record, short guys are 🔥 imo... but agree in spirit- my ideal life would include a partner who's smarter and more ambitious, so I could be his assistant and biggest fan. 51. Nov 6, 2021Twitter · reply@willhinsa @tszzl Elon ❤️ bots, he's just accelerating the NLP arms race
  52. Nov 6, 2021Twitter · reply@tszzl It's a clever excuse to blame "the people" when he's been wanting to cash in on current valuation but any unforced sale would likely trigger a crisis.
  53. Nov 6, 2021Twitter · reply@remnantposting @RokoMijic Geographic separation and diverging selection pressures are a step on the way to speciation; this is different (simpler) than male vs female social dynamics while still collaborating to create the next generation with each other's genes.
  54. Nov 6, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky Office vs residential- office rental agreements can be more favorable to landlords (longer duration with escalation clauses, pass along the property taxes to the renter, less eviction drama) and rent / sq ft can be better (obv market dependent)
  55. Nov 6, 2021Twitter · reply@BlckCatBlckSky There's a max ratio of retail to office / residential customers, and ground floor spaces are far better for enticing customers, upper level retail is tough unless you're a destination for repeats or a penthouse view.

  58. Nov 6, 2021Twitter · reply@RokoMijic Yes true, I only meant to dispute the part about selection acting independently, as if we're two separate species.

  60. Nov 6, 2021Twitter · reply@RokoMijic DNA for men passes through women and vice versa (Y chrom aside)... means we tend to be the same unless there's reason for sexual dimorphism, which obv there is for rape... my intelligence may be equiv of male nipples evolutionarily, doesn't mean it doesn't exist
  61. Nov 6, 2021Twitter · reply@fovillian_67 @joegasparrini @joshtpm We don't have same-day registration, but for anyone who isn't registered, after checking with the registrar to confirm status, we will encourage the voter to fill out a voter registration form so we can get them in the system before the *next* election.

  65. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@interfluidity It's a family thing, I think it'd hurt my granddad's feelings to bow out 🤷
  66. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@interfluidity No, it's tied up in partnerships which I don't control... I live a middle class lifestyle, my 2020 tax payment will be approx the same as the entire value of my home.
  67. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@Pinboard Don't ruin their prepper cosplay! It's almost as bad as telling a rich guy you really have no need of an allowance 😉
  68. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@interfluidity No, I need it as high as possible... $13K isn't much when your total tax bill will be $350K+
  69. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@soulsweller @tszzl My granddad, for one.
  70. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@interfluidity It's worth $13K to me for 2020 taxes, so I'm in favor 😏
  71. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@Engineer_1612 Chocolate, spankings, and generous bookstore allowance.
  72. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@geekethics Fireworks are pretty terrible for air quality... I prefer the drone light shows
  73. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@robinhanson @RokoMijic @increase_la Cap the total number of words allowed in legal statutes? Each new thing they want to do must be paired with removal of existing words.
  74. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@tontus_ponret @RokoMijic (my work PM will start a meeting by stating 1 + 1 = 3. I'll debate him that actually 1 + 1 = 2, we'll go back and forth and eventually he'll conclude "of course 1 + 1 = 2... That's what I said to begin with!" He seems to genuinely believe it, which I find mystifying)
  75. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@tontus_ponret @RokoMijic How do we learn whether NTs have an internal distinction between what is socially advantageous vs what is accurate? Even if you frame convo to allow contrarian views, and then they express one, did they already hold the view or did they subconsciously shift to match new context?
  76. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · repostRT @duns_sc0tus: I heard there was a secret cord you plug it in and you meet the Lord
  77. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@RokoMijic A bit more than 50% of your genes come from women- we aren't two separate species! Sexual dimorphism is def a thing, but intellectually there's a lot of overlap in male & female distributions.
  78. Nov 5, 2021Twitter · reply@MichelleHawks7 @srl @SpiroAgnewGhost The change is that we ask for ID (but a longer list of acceptable IDs) but if you don't have one you can sign a form attesting to your identity instead. Now no one gets sent home to fetch their ID or is forced to vote a provisional and show ID the next day.
  79. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@Willyintheworld @tszzl 🤣 this plus the fleece vest, plus a consultant's instinct to not pick the wrong fights... I'm predicting that he delivers on grocery tax repeal, reduction of business regulation, and better DMV customer service (and the latter two are already in progress).
  80. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@Duderichy And you are deliciously sweet 😍
  81. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · repostRT @BrainSuperMouse: @Aella_Girl because strong erections are a marker of good health
  82. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@RokoMijic Lol, I don't hate NTs, just see them as cute yappy puppies more fit for cuddles than debates. Which isn't an insult- their lives are probably simpler and more fun than mine?
  83. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@RokoMijic Yeah, I mention it because I don't really know what goes on in the brain of NTs, you might be right... But I'm neither testosterone poisoned nor a lemming groupthinker so I feel like there should be a better solution than "put obnoxious men in charge"?
  84. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@prerationalist My handknit sock drawer... Workout socks are in another drawer, stockings and lingerie in a third. https://t.co/GppDbwZE2v
  85. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@emilyabell @MommaBear115 @mattyglesias We should be fixing rapid test availability, improving healthcare system resilience / surge capacity for this and future pandemics, subsidizing ventilation tech... And most of all getting our institutional act together so we make better decisions in the next crisis.
  86. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@emilyabell @MommaBear115 @mattyglesias At this point it's endemic and masks are only somewhat effective, vaccines much moreso but still not 💯, there's gonna be transmission and some severe cases... I don't think it's the best use of political capital to fixate on mask mandates anymore.
  87. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@RokoMijic I'm female + ASD, to me this is two conscious steps- first, what is true, second, of the truths which can be voiced. I think it's a reach to assume people don't know something just because they are censoring themselves for safety.

  90. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@robinhanson @RokoMijic They're likely to be wrong because they're human not rational? Idk, I'm on the fence but skeptical because people make terrible financial and health decisions all the time and this would increase their ability to do both.
  91. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@robinhanson @RokoMijic Humans are *terrible* at reasoning about risk of rare events, as covid has amply demonstrated. Also as a taxpayer I'd want to see projected healthcare costs associated with this policy change.
  92. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@MommaBear115 @mattyglesias Virginia rescinded the mask mandate in May, mask wearing dropped off a lot in summer, somewhat returned as a request / norm in many businesses in lefty areas this fall but not mandated.
  93. Nov 4, 2021Twitter · reply@SwiftOnSecurity ❤️ me too!
